Mounties drop opener
Southmont dropped the opening game of the season by losing at Owen Valley 10-5.
After giving up three runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Mounties took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Patriots responded by scoring seven runs in the final two frames.
Mountie freshman starting pitcher Ella Barry pitched all six innings. Barry allowed only five earned runs while recording 12 strikeouts and walking only two batters.
Both teams had 10 hits in the game. Southmont senior Anna Stokes had three of her team’s hits. Barry also had a two-run home run. South stranded eight runners in the game.
Southmont (0-1) played Greencastle Friday and host a tournament on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
GOLF
Chargers move to 2-0
North Montgomery’s golf team braved the elements on Wednesday and defeated Lafayette Central Catholic 165-172 at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.
Charger senior Neal Jeffery was the medalist with an even par 36.
Other Charger scores were 43 apiece for Beckett Martin, Konnor Koopman and Rohen Barnes.
Next up for the Chargers is Monday with a home match against Seeger.
