Athenians lose to Northview

Crawfordsville lost at Northview Thursday by  a score of 4-2.

The Athenians took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third when the Knights scored their first run in the game making the score 2-1.

Northview scored three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good at 4-2.

Knight pitching stymied the Athenians with just  three hits.

Athenian starting pitcher Jude Coursey gave up one unearned run in three innings of work. The senior recorded two strikeouts.

Athenian Braeden Scholte took the loss for the Athenians.

Crawfordsville (0-3-1) will host Fountain Central (0-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday.

 

Mounties lose in extra innings

North Putnam outlasted Southmont on Thursday with a 16-5 nine inning win. The score was knotted at 4 apiece after seven innings.

The Cougars scored 12 runs in the final inning on only four hits. The Mounties committed two errors in the inning and the Cougars took advantage of seven walks.

The Mounties had seven hits in the game led by Phisher Benge and Gunnar Shirk who each had two hits.

Southmont (1-1) played Friday at Clinton Prairie.

 

SOFTBALL

Chargers defeat Attica

North Montgomery won their first game of the season 11-0 at Attica in six innings.

The Chargers broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning and seven runs in the sixth frame.

The Chargers pounded out 11 hits in the game led by freshman Jayla Birge’s three hits. Senior Faith Shirar and freshman Kendra McClamroch each collected two hits apiece.

Starting senior pitcher Piper Ramey allowed just one hit and struck out 10 Red Ramblers. 

North Montgomery (1-0) hosted Bethesda Christian on Friday.

 

Mustangs pound Central Catholic

Fountain Central defeated Central Catholic 13-2  in five innings on Thursday.

Both teams had five hits but the Mustangs were able to take advantage of four walks and six hit batters.

Fountain Central freshman Kailey Daugherty scored three runs in the game.

Mustang junior Lillian Bennett allowed five hits and two earned runs and struck out two Knights.

The Mustangs will play next at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crawfordsville.

 

TENNIS

Mustangs shutout Gophers

Fountain Central started the new season with a 5-0 victory over Clinton Prairie.

Mustang’s No. 1 Alydia Mellady swept Deianey Lee 6-0, 6-0 and No. 3 Laney Hoagland defeated Merissa Large 6-0, 6-0.

Mustang No. 2 singles Else Webb defeated Cyrhia Roche 6-1, 6-0.

Fountain Central’s No. 1 doubles team of Josie Harshbarger and Lilly Petterson won 6-0, 6-0. 

The Mustangs’ No. 2 doubles team of Savannah Bowers and Esme Muniz won 6-3, 6-2.

Fountain Central will host Fountain County rival Covington on Monday.
