BASEBALL

Mounties beat Mustangs

Southmont defeated Fountain Central at home Friday 16-6 in six innings. The Mountie offense had eight hits and took advantage of four Mustang errors to score a season high in runs.

Fountain Central scored the first two runs in the top of the first inning but Southmont junior Gunnar Shirk hit a two-run home run to tie the game.

The Mustangs regained a short-lived lead in the top of the second frame with one run, but the Mounties took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Southmont scored in five of the game’s six innings.

Shirk ended the game going two-for-two with three RB at the plate. Mounties Dean McGaughey and Cale Chadd each collected two RBI.

Bryson Davis led the Fountain Central offense with two hits and three RBI. Nolan Acton added two hits ­— two RBI and scoring two runs. Ayden Batchelor recorded two hits and scored two runs.

Mountie Phisher Benge went the distance for the win. Davis took the loss on the mound for the Mustangs.

Southmont (2-5) travels today to Sagamore Conference foe Frankfort. The Mustangs (1-6) were rained out Saturday at North Vermillion and played Monday at Western Boone (3-5).

 

Raiders top Athenians

For five innings on Friday, Crawfordsville led Lafayette Harrison, but the Raiders scored seven runs in the final two innings to win 11-6.

After Crawfordsville took a 3-2 lead after one inning on its home field, each team added one in the second inning. Crawfordsville added to its lead with one run in the third inning go ahead 5-3.

Harrison added one run in the fourth inning and exploded for five runs in the sixth inning.

Crawfordsville was held scoreless in the final four innings.

Athenian junior Mason McCarty had two of Crawfordsville’s four hits in the game. McCarty had a one-run double and scored one run in the loss with two stolen bases.

Crawfordsville (3-4-1, 2-0 SAC) will play at Sagamore Conference rival Tri-West (4-2, 2-0 SAC) at 6 p.m. today at the Athenian Complex.

 

SOFTBALL

Mounties walk off Clinton Prairie

Southmont made all the plays when the pressure was on in Friday’s 10-9 walk off victory of Clinton Prairie.

Mountie Anna Stokes single scored Kenzi Douglas in the final at-bat to gather the win.

Previous to Stokes’ hit, Kaylee Turner laid down a squeeze bunt to score Jayden Dagley which tied the game and sitting up Stokes’ heroics.

The Mounties totaled 15 hits in the game led by Catie Himes’ three hits and two RBI. Dagley, Grino, Douglas and Mallory Mason each had two hits for Southmont.

Mountie pitcher Sophomore Sammie Crosby started the game after recovering from an injury and picked up the win.

Southmont (2-2)  played at home Monday against Parke Heritage and will play Tri-West at 5:30 p.m. today at home.

 

Fountain Central tops Faith Christian

Fountain Central defeated 12-1 Faith Christian in five innings Friday in Lafayette.

The Mustang offense pounded out 10 hits led by Patience Bixler’s three hits and three runs.

Jacquelyn Weber, Mallory Massey, Oliviah Jones and Erin Volk each had two hits for the Mustangs.

Bixler pitched all five innings and gave up only four hits and walked only one batter.

The Mustangs were rained out Saturday in their doubleheader against North Vermillion. Fountain Central (3-6, 0-4 WRC) plays Seeger (1-6, 1-0 WRC) today at home.

 

TENNIS

Athenians blanked by Terre Haute South

Crawfordsville traveled to Terre Haute South on Friday and lost 0-5. Only the No.2 doubles team was able to play more than two sets in the match.

Athenian No. 2 team of Emma Buser and Elliott Bamer dropped their match 7-5, 3-6, 6-10.

 

Chargers win at Speedway

North Montgomery defeated Speedway 5-0 on Friday on the Sparkplugs’ home court.

No individual statistics were provide.

 

Mounties beat Attica

Southmont defeated Attica on Thursday 4-1. 

Singles winners were Haylee Hall at No. 1 single 6-0, 6-0, Jozee Jones at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-1 and Maggie Gilliland at No. 3 singles, 6-0-6-2. Doubles winners were Flora Nunes and Claire McCutchan at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-4.

Southmont (1-1) will play Seeger on Wednesday at home.
