Mounties roll over Frankfort Hot Dogs

Southmont scored early and often in a 16-0 win in five innings over Sagamore Conference rival Frankfort.

Southmont sophomore pitcher Sammi Crosby had her first start of the season. She responded by pitching a two-hit shutout.

Southmont led 13-0 after two innings and cruised to the finish.

The Mounties did not commit an error in the game.

Southmont’s offense was led by Jenna Grino who had three hits, three RBI and scored two runs. Mounties Kenzie Clate and Kenzie Douglas each had two hits.

Southmont (6-3, 2-1 SAC) played Frankfort (0-5, 0-3 SAC) on Wednesday at home.

 

North Montgomery loses at Danville

North Montgomery could not match the firepower of Danville on Tuesday. The Chargers lost 10-0 in five innings.

North Montgomery only recorded two hits in the game — one by freshman Sophie Welshimer and one by junior Sophia Shea.

Danville (4-4, 4-0 SAC) had 11 hits including four doubles.

The two teams battled at North Montgomery (4-3, 0-3 SAC) on Wednesday.

 

Tri-West Bruins roll over Athenians

After two innings Crawfordsville and Tri-West were knotted at no runs apiece. But in a 15-run third inning, the Bruins coasted to a 22-2 five inning win at Crawfordsville.

Tri-West outhit the Athenians 17-4.

Crawfordsville committed five errors in the game

The Athenians scored their two runs in the third inning when junior Christina Susdorf had a two-RBI single.

Crawfordsville (1-6, 0-3 SAC) traveled Wednesday to Tri-West (3-4, 2-1 SAC) .

 

Patriots topple FC Mustangs

Fountain Central’s offense was stymied by Wabash River Conference foe Seeger on Tuesday. The result was a 7-0 loss to the Patriots at Fountain Central (3-7, 0-5 WRC).

Seeger pitcher Lyla Badger limited Fountain Central to four hits while striking out 11 Mustangs.

The two teams played Wednesday at Seeger (2-6, 2-1 WRC).

 

BASEBALL

Athenians drop game to Tri-West

Tri-West scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a comeback 7-5 win against Crawfordsville. The Athenians led the first six innings of the Sagamore Athletic Conference game.

Crawfordsville senior pitcher Jude Coursey kept the Bruins scoreless for four innings. Meanwhile, the Athenian offense was able to earn single runs in the second and third innings. Each team scored one run in the fifth inning.

Coursey pitched 6.1 innings and gave up five earned runs. The righty struck out six Bruins and did not walk a batter.

Bruin starting pitcher C. Keller pitched five innings and struck out eight Athenians. Reliever C. Brozak pitched two inning shutout innings while striking out four Athenians.

Four Athenians had five hits. Henny Bannon had a double and Ethan Campbell, Mason McCarty, Jacob Lee and Sam Minnette each had singles.

The two teams battled again Wednesday at Tri-West (5-2, 3-0 SAC).

 

Hot Dogs beat Mounties

Frankfort defeated Southmont 12-2 in five innings Tuesday in Sagamore Athletic Conference action. The home standing Hot Dogs benefited from six Mountie errors in the game to get the win.

Frankfort starting pitcher Michael Santos pitched five innings and gave up only five hits. Santos struck out eight Mounties.

Trailing 5-0 after two innings, the Mounties cut into the deficit by scoring two runs. The momentum was short-lived as the Hot Dogs went on to score seven runs in their last three at-bats.

Frankfort (5-2, 3-0 SAC) out hit Southmont (2-6, 0-3 SAC) seven to five.

The two teams played Wednesday at Southmont.

 

Chargers drop first game to Danville

North Montgomery traveled Tuesday to Danville for a Sagamore Athletic Conference game. Danville earned its first win of the season by defeating the Chargers 3-0.

The game ended up being a pitchers dual between Charger senior Cade Cole and Danville’s Garrett Groce who is also an Akron signee.

Groce pitched the complete game and struck out 13 Chargers in 6.1 innings. He held North Montgomery to just four hits.

Cole took the loss on the mound. In six innings, the righty surrendered six hits and only one earned run while striking out two.

The deciding play that led to two sixth inning Warrior runs was a muffed double play by the North Montgomery defense.

The Chargers had three errors in the game compared to the Warrior, who had no errors.

Danville (1-7, 1-2) played Wednesday at North Montgomery (7-1, 2-1 SAC).

 

Fountain Central loses to Seeger

Fountain Central lost to Wabash River Conference rival Seeger 6-2 on Tuesday on the Mustangs’ home field.

Fountain Central led 1-0 after one inning. The Patriots took the lead for good with a five-run fourth inning and never trailed again.

The Patriots out-hit Fountain Central seven to five. Each team only committed one error.

Fountain Central’s Uriah Wildman had two hits for the Mustangs.

Seeger (3-4, 2-0 WRC) played host to Fountain Central (1-7, 0-3 WRC) on Wednesday.

 

TENNIS

Athenians blank Tri-West

Crawfordsville defeated Tri-West 5-0 on Wednesday. The Athenians won every match in two sets.

Athenians winning were singles players Reagan Cox (6-1, 6-2), CC Cox (6-2, 6-2) and Caroline Browning (6-0, 6-0).

The No. 1 doubles team Isla Seward and Mayna Hali won 6-1, 6-0 and the No. 2 doubles team of Emma Buser and Elliott Baker won 6-0, 6-1.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Chargers swept at Harrison

North Montgomery’s girls and boys were defeated by Lafayette Harrison on Tuesday. The Charger boys lost 85.5 to 46.5 and the girls lost 96-31.

Charger girls’ Madi Holt won the 400 M. (1:03.83) and Gracie Ratcliff placed first in the 300 M Hurdles (50.67). Haley Kunz and Page Yarger tied in pole vault (8-0) for North Montgomery.

In the boys meet North Montgomery winners included Cam Claycomb in both the 200 M Dash (23.43) and 400 M. Dash (52.80). Claycomb was edged out of winning the 100 M Dash by a mere one-hundredth of a second. Harrison’s Jonathon Beaver finished the dash in 11:64 and Claycomb was timed at 11:65.

Chargers Jack Rogers won the 3200 M. Run (10:43) and Jayden Thompson won the 300 M Hurdles (44.18).

North Montgomery’s 4x400 relay team of Ryan Harper, Blake Welch, Nolan Yarger and Jayden Thompson won (3:47.61).

North swept the throwing events. Gage Taylor won the shot put (41.5) and Andy Veselji won the discus throw (117.01).
