Mounties lose to Frankfort

Southmont lost 8-1 at home to Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Frankfort on Wednesday. After three innings neither team had scored, but the Hotdogs plated seven runs in their final four at-bats.

Southmont scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Cale Chadd doubled driving in Dean McGaughey.

Frankfort only had five hits in the game but the Mounties’ had five errors in the contest.

Southmont (2-7, 0-4 SAC) will play at North Montgomery (7-2, 2-2 SAC) at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

C’ville drops game to Tri-West

Crawfordsville dropped a close Sagamore Conference game at Tri-West by a score of 6-5. The win gave the Bruins a SAC sweep of the Athenians this week.

Tri-West (6-2, 4-0 SAC) scored all the runs they needed with a six-run first inning. The Athenians scored five runs in the second inning but neither team could push across any more runs.

The Athenians big second inning included four runs after two outs were made. After loading the bases Crawfordsville got a sacrifice fly by Landon Gerold. Following a Bruin error, Jude Coursey ripped a 2-RBI double. Henry Bannon them produced a 2-RBI single.

The next five innings became a pitcher’s duel. Gerold pitched five innings in relief and surrendered no runs while striking out four.

Crawfordsville had four hits in the game and Tri-West had six. The Athenian defense committed four errors in the game and the Bruins had two miscues.

Crawfordsville (3-6-1, 2-2 SAC) plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at home against Lebanon (1-8, 0-4 SAC).

 

Danville sweeps North

North Montgomery lost 9-2 to Sagamore Conference foe Danville at home on Wednesday.

The Chargers were handcuffed by Warrior senior pitcher Kole Miller who surrendered just three hits in the game and two runs.

To add to the Chargers woes, the starting infield committed five errors leading to six unearned Danville runs.

North starting pitcher Crew Cole was effective by allowing only two earned runs in six innings.

North Montgomery (7-2, 2-2 SAC) will play host to Lafayette Harrison (9-1) today and will entertain Southmont at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

Patriots shutout Mustangs

Fountain Central was shutout 8-0 at Wabash River Conference Seeger on Wednesday. The Mustangs struggled defensively by have seven errors, helping Seeger score their runs with only four hits.

Fountain Central had two hits with Nolan Acton and Wyatt Clark each getting one hit apiece.

Mustang pitcher Asher Davis had five strikeouts in four innings.

Fountain Central (1-9, 1-5 WRC) plays at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Vermillion (0-9, 0-6 WRC) in a WRC doubleheader.

 

SOFTBALL

South’s Barry pitches no-hitter

Southmont freshman Ella Barry recorded her first high school no-hitter Wednesday at home against Frankfort in a 9-0 victory. The red-hot Mounties have now won five straight games.

Barry struck out 17 Hot Dogs and only walked two batters.

Mountie Carie Himes had three hits and Mallory Himes hit a home run. Mallory Mason and Barry each had two hits.

Southmont’s defense had no errors in the game.

The Mounties (7-3, 3-1 SAC) play at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Montgomery.

 

Chargers swept by Danville

North Montgomery was defeated 12-3 by Sagamore Conference rival Danville on Wednesday. The Warrior victory marked a conference sweep over the Chargers.

The Chargers produced eight hits in the game led by Piper Ramey who was 3-for-3 on the day. Paisley Gillan added two hits for North.

North Montgomery (4-4, 0-4 SAC) made seven errors in the game as only four of Danville’s runs were earned.

The Chargers host Southmont at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

Bruins sweep Athenians

Tri-West completed a Sagamore Conference sweep over Crawfordsville on Wednesday with a 15-0 five inning win.

Crawfordsville was stymied by Bruin pitchers Natalie Tharp and Hailey Spurlock. The Athenians could muster two hits in the game. Athenians Tori Truax and Delaney Spencer each recorded singles.

Crawfordsville (1-7, 0-4 SAC) will host Lebanon at 5:30 p.m. today.

 

Mustangs lose to Seeger

Fountain Central lost 12-9 in a Wabash River game on Tuesday at Seeger.

The Mustangs led 9-5 after four innings but the Patriots added five runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning to complete the comeback.

Seeger outhit Fountain Central 15-6.

Mustangs Olive Jones had three hits and Kyra Kiger added two hits.

The Mustangs (3-8, 0-6 WRC) will play at North Vermillion (2-7, 2-4 WRC) at 11 a.m. Saturday.

 

GOLF

Mounties lose to Tiger Cubs

The Southmont golf team traveled Wednesday to Greencastle to take on the Tiger Cubs in a nine-hole match. Greencastle won 176-182.

Mountie Austin Foley was medalist with a round of one under par 34 on the Tiger Pointe Golf Course. Other Mountie scores were Ethan Hutchison 43, Cole Rhoads 51 and Conner Walls 54.

On Saturday, Southmont will host the Mountie Invitational at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

 

Athenians place second

Crawfordsville played host to a three-way meet at the city’s municipal golf course and came in second.

Team scores were Lafayette Central Catholic 154, Crawfordsville 177 and Western Boone 199.

Athenians scores were Tanner Gilliland 42, Jude Hurt 44, Caiden Murray 45 and Colten Custer 56.

Central Catholic’s Will Jones was the match medalist with a score of 35.

Crawfordsville will play Saturday in the Mountie Invitation at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

 

TENNIS

Mustangs blank Chargers

Fountain Central traveled Wednesday to North Montgomery and defeated the Chargers 5-0.

The Mustangs (6-0) won all five matches in two sets.

Fountain Central No. 1 singles Alydia Medley defeated Kate Merica 6-0, 6-1. Mustang No. 2 singles Elise Webb beat Abigail Allen 6-4, 6-2. No. 3 singles defeated Cassidy Thomas 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles action, Fountain Central’s No. 1 team of Lilly Peterson and Hannah Prickett beat Reagan Little and Sarika Gabhawala 6-0, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Josie Harshbarger and Savannah Bowers defeated Avery Gayler and Caelyn Carpenter (6-4, 7-6 (3).

 

Athenians beat Lebanon

Crawfordsville played host to Lebanon and won 5-0 over the Tigers.

All of the matches were won in straight sets.

Crawfordsville winners were No. 1 singles Reagan Cox (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 singles CC Cox (6-2, 6-0) and No. 3 singles Caroline Bowling (6-0, 6-2).

The Athenians also won in doubles action. Isla Seward and Alayna Hall (6-4,6-0) won at No. 1 doubles and Elliot Baker and Emma Buser (6-0, 6-0) won at No. 2 doubles.
