Chargers beat Southmont
North Montgomery beat county and Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Southmont 11-0 in five innings on Saturday.
Charger senior pitcher Cade Cole held the Mounties scoreless by tossing a one-hitter while striking out six and walking just two batters.
The lone Mountie hit came in the top of the third inning from junior Aaron McMasters.
North Montgomery scored one run in the first inning and five runs in each of the second and third innings for their 11 runs.
The Chargers totaled nine hits against four different Mountie pitchers.
Junior catcher Jack Warren led the Charger offense by going 3-for-3 at the plate. Warren scored two runs and had two RBI.
Cole had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs in the game.
Southmont was plagued in the game with three errors. North Montgomery had one error.
North Montgomery (8-2, 3-2 SAC) played at West Lafayette on Monday. Southmont (2-8, 0-5 SAC) played Greencastle on Monday and will play Crawfordsville at 6 p.m. today at home.
Crawfordsville defeats Lebanon
Crawfordsville scored six runs in the first two innings against Lebanon on Saturday. As it turned out, the Athenians needed no more runs and won 6-3 at home.
Athenian junior Henry Bannon was the winning pitcher. Bannon threw six innings and gave up three runs but only one earned run and had three strikeouts.
Crawfordsville had four hits in the game but took advantage of four Lebanon errors.
Jude Coursey started the game with a single. After a Lebanon error which scored Coursey and a walk, Sam Minnette drove in two runs.
The Tigers committed three more errors in the bottom of the second inning which helped Crawfordsville take a 6-1 lead. Athenian Konner Ellsbury had a bunt single early in the inning and later scored on a passed ball.
Coursey pitched the seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts.
Athenians with hits were Ellsbury, Minnette and Coursey who had two hits.
Crawfordsville (4-6-1, 3-2 SAC) plays at 6 p.m. tonight against Southmont (2-8, 0-5 SAC).
Mustangs drop pair to Seeger
Fountain Central lost both games of a Wabash River Conference doubleheader to Seeger on Saturday. The Patriots won the first game 6-2 and the second game 8-0.
In Game 1, Seeger pounded out 10 hits while Fountain Central had six.
The Mustangs led 1-0 through the first three innings until Seeger plated six runs in the fourth. The Patriots added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning.
Uriah Wildman had two hits for the Mustangs.
In the second gam,e Patriot pitchers Xavier Lang and Ryder Hannon combined to pitch a two-hitter in the shutout. Lang struck out 10 Mustangs with two walks. Hannon pitched the final inning and struck out two.
Wyatt Clark and Nolan Acton each had one hit for Fountain Central.
Fountain Central (1-9, 1-5 WRC) faced Benton Central (3-9) at home on Monday. The Mustangs play today at Covington.
SOFTBALL
Mounties take care of Chargers
Southmont defeated county and Sagamore Athletic Conference rival North Montgomery 9-3 on Saturday.
Mountie Ella Barry pitched all seven innings and stymied the Charger offense by allowing only four hits and striking out 12.
The Mounties scored three runs in the first inning after Jenna Grino singled and drove in one run followed by a Catie Himes two-run double.
The second inning was much like the first for the Mounties. Himes had a one-run double followed by Barry’s two-run double in a four-run inning.
Trailing 9-0, Charger Piper Ramey sent a ball over the left field fence. The three-RBI homer pulled the Chargers to within 9-3.
The Mounties collected 10 hits in the game. Anna Stokes, Grino and Himes each had two hits. Himes also had three RBI.
Ramey led the Charger offense with two hits of the Chargers’ four total.
Neither team scored after the fourth inning.
Southmont (8-3, 4-1 SAC) has now won eight straight games and played Covington at home on Monday. The Mounties entertain Crawfordsville today and will play the Athenians away on Wednesday.
North Montgomery (4-5, 0-5 SAC) will play Tuesday at home against Frankfort and travel to Frankfort on Wednesday.
Crawfordsville drops game
Crawfordsville traveled to Eminence (5-3) on Saturday and lost 7-1 to the Eels.
In the first inning, Athenian Sabella Moore put her team ahead 1-0, but the Eels responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Crawfordsville only had two hits the rest of the game including a double by Christina Susdorf. The Eels collected a total of 10 hits.
Each team committed three errors.
Crawfordsville (1-8, 0-4 SAC) is on a five-game losing streak and played at Bethesda Christian (5-5) on Monday. They play today at Southmont and at home against the Mounties on Wednesday.
Mustangs split with Falcons
Fountain Central won the second game of its Wabash River Conference doubleheader at North Vermillion on Saturday. The Mustang won 8-4 after dropping the first game 10-6.
Fountain Central scored six runs in the first six innings while holding the Falcons scoreless.
Mustang Olivia Jones had two hits and two-RBI in the first two innings.
Fountain had seven hits in the game.
Lillian Bennett pitched all seven innings for the win and struck out five. Bennett surrendered only one earned run.
In the first game, North Vermillion took a 6-0 lead after two innings before the Mustangs made it 6-3 in the top of the fourth. The Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 9-3.
The Mustangs tried to make a comeback by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth but coud not overcome the Falcons.
Mustangs Kyra Kiger and Kailey Daugherty each had two hits and Keylee Stonebraker had two RBI.
Bennett pitched all six innings for Fountain Central allowing three earned runs and striking out eight.
Fountain Central (4-9, 1-7 WRC) plays today at Covington (3-8, 2-2 WRC) and will host the Trojans on Wednesday.
TENNIS
Mounties beat Parke Heritage
Southmont moved to 2-2 with a win at Parke Heritage on Thursday with a 3-2 win.
Mountie No. 1 singles Haylee Hall prevailed in a long match winning 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (9-7).
Also winning for Southmont were No. 2 Jozee Jones (6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 singles Maggie Gilliland (6-1, 6-1).
