Mounties defeat Cloverdale
Southmont won their second home game of the weekend by upending Cloverdale 72-59.
The score was tied at 24 apiece at halftime. The Mounties took control of the game in the third quarter when they outscored the Clovers 18-7.
Vince Reimondo scored 16 points with nine assists and Austin Foley pulled down a game high 12 rebounds. Aaron McMasters added 13 points.
Southmont (4-0) plays at Sagamore Conference rival Danville in a girl/boy doubleheader on Friday before returning home to play Greencastle on Saturday.
Chargers win triple OT thriller
For the first time in their history, North Montgomery played in a game that lasted three overtimes on Saturday at Speedway.
After having the last shot chances to win the game at the end of regulation and at the conclusion of the first and second overtimes, the Chargers were able to win the game 69-64.
Charger senior Kelby Harwood led the Chargers with 30 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
Senior Cam Enlow added 16 points while making 4-of-7 shots from behind the three-point line.
For Speedway (0-4) junior Drew Matelic kept the Sparkplugs in the game by pouring in 37 points.
North Montgomery (2-1) will celebrate Chuck Kriston Night on Friday when they host the Seeger Patriots (2-2) followed by a game at Covington.
Mustangs beat Clinton Central
Fountain Central won their first game of the season Friday with a 48-42 home win against Clinton Central.
Eli Foxworthy led the Mustangs by scoring 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting including 3-of-6 from behind the arch. Noah Dodson pulled down eight rebounds and Skyler Hoagland added eight points.
Fountain Central (1-1) travels to Traders Point Christian (1-2) today and will be at home Friday against Wabash River Conference foe Riverton Parke.
WRESTLING
County teams competevat Webo Duals
All three county wrestling teams competed Saturday at the Western Boone Invitational and all three teams had success.
Crawfordsville led the way by going 5-0 on the day. The Athenians beat Frankfort 55-20, Lebanon 44-27, Tri-West 40-39, Western Boone 40-29 and Danville 61-47.
Five Athenian wrestlers were undefeated. Taiga Koyanagi (106), Landon Vaught (144), Aiden Hutchison (150), Braiden Hites (175) and Keegan Coke all finished with 5-0 records.
Southmont finished the day with a 3-2 record.
The Mounties defeated Danville 59-21, Tri-West 41-36, and Frankfort 60-19. The Mounties fell short to Western Boone 41-27 and Lebanon 41-33.
Lukas Scott (106) was 5-0 on the day. Going 4-1 were Camden Laney (138), Hunter Alesi (150), Paxton Gentry (157) and Kooper Charles (190).
North Montgomery finished 2-3 with wins over Frankfort 48-42 and Danville 38-33. The three losses were to Western Boone 47-12, Lebanon and Tri-West 52-24. No individual statistics were provided.
Mustangs place second in own tourney
Fountain Central placed second at its own round robin tournament on Saturday.
The Mustangs defeated South Newton 63-9, Westville 43-30, South Vermillion 43-3, and North Vermillion 43-33. The only defeat was to West Lafayette 41-29.
Going undefeated in the tournament were Dallas Simmons (105), Caylum Wills (175), and Colby Golia (285).
SWIMMING
Athenians compete at Pike Invitational
The girls’ and boys teams both finished in sixth place out of 12 teams.
For the boys Adrian Medina finished in ninth in the 200 yard free and 10th in the 100 Free (53.47). Henry Hoar (1:00.80) finished in fifth place in the 100 Fly.
Crawfordsville’s boys 200 Free Relay team of Medina, Jayden Callejas, Daniel Surface and Konner Hartlep finished sixth (1:44.65).
Shawn Ewoldt was fifth (1:07.56) in the 100 Breast.
The Athenian 400 Free Relay team of Konner Ellsbury, Hoar, Surface and Median (3:54.06) placed sixth. Tryston Sauer finished in fourth in the Boys 1 meter diving and Korbin Sanders placed eighth.
The girls’ top-10 finishes included the 200 Medley Relay team (2:00.09) comprised of Ellie Walker, Marie Hesler, Guinevere Schmitzer-Torbet and Maesa Horton.
Schmitzer-Torbert finished fifth in the 200 IM (2:24.37)
Horton finished sixth in the 50 Free (26.4) and 10th in the 100 Free (59:13). Sophia Melevage was sixth in the 200 Fly (1:04.48). Marie Hesler was seventh in the 500 Free (5:47.07).
Hesler was seventh in the 100 Free (1:08.08) and Schmitzer-Torbet was fourth in the 100 Free (1:13.40).
The 400 Relay of Mabel Hoar, Milia Blackwell, Melanie Dowd and Katherine Novak placed seventh (4:17.10).
WABASH COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Little Giants remains unbeaten in NCAC
Wabash remained unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 66-57 victory at Oberlin College on Saturday.
The Little Giants led 34-21 at halftime.
Vinnie Buccilla lead Wabash with 22 points and Nate Matelic and Rich Brooks each added eight points apiece.
Next up for Wabash is the Don Lane Classic in Lexington, Kentucky on Dec. 21-22.
