BOYS BASKETBALL

Chargers fall at Covington

North Montgomery was defeated 55-39 at Covington on Saturday. Despite scoring the first eight points of the game, the Chargers only led 10-8 after the first quarter.

Covington (4-5) went on to take the lead early in the second quarter and led 25-20 at the break.

A 17-10 deficit in third quarter points put the Chargers in a hole they could not overcome.

No Charger individual statistics were available.

North Montgomery (2-3, 0-1 SAC) will host Crawfordsville (0-6, 0-1 SAC) Saturday in a girl/boy doubleheader.

 

Athenians drop two

Crawfordsville lost to West Lafayette 81-41 on Friday. The Athenians could not overcome the Red Devil’s offense despite only trailing 18-15 after the first quarter.

Athenian Tanner Guilland led his team with nine points. Mason McCarty scored eight points.

On Saturday, Crawfordsville (0-6) lost to Lawrenceville, Illinois 59-36 at home.

Next up for Crawfordsville is Friday’s girl/boy doubleheader at North Montgomery.

 

Mustangs lose to Panthers

Fountain Central lost to Riverton Parke 36-24 on Friday in a Wabash River Conference game.

The Mustangs offense struggled throughout the game and did not score more that eight points in any quarter. Despite only trailing 17-12 at halftime, the Mustangs could not overcome the Panthers.

Fountain Central (1-3, 0-1 WRC) will play in the Sheridan Holiday Tournament against Hagerstown at noon Dec. 27.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Athenians lose to Cascade

Crawfordsville lost to Cascade 58-22 on Saturday.

No Athenian player statistics were made available.

Crawfordsville (1-12) will face North Montgomery on Friday in a girl/boy doubleheader.

 

Southmont loses SAC contest

Southmont lost to Danville 63-35 on Friday.

No individual statistics were made available.

The Mounties (3-8, 0-1 SAC) played Fountain Central on Monday and will play Western Boone on Friday in a SAC girl/boy doubleheader at home.

 

WRESTLING

Southmont competes at Calumet Invite

Southmont boys wrestling team travel north to Calumet on Saturday and came away with a 3-2 record.

The Mounties be Hammond Central 54-20, Calumet 66-12 and Michigan City 60-24.

Hunter Alesi (150) was 5-0 on the day. Lukas Scott (106) was 4-1 as was Tyler Davis (215).

Finishing with 3-2 records were Arlon Musick (113), Cooper Scott (120), Camden Laney (138), Paxton Gentry (157) and Max Musick (175).

Southmont (8-4) will ravel to South Vermillion tonight.

 

FC places 8th at Clinton Prairie

Fountain Central participated in the Clinton Prairie Invitational on Saturday and finished eighth.

Mustang Dallas Simmons (120) placed second with a 3-1 record. Dakoda Willoughby (144) placed third with a 4-1 record.

Ayden Donaldson (138) placed fifth with a 4-2 record. Asher Davis placed fifth with a 4-2 record and Colby Golia (285) placed fifth with a 3-2 record.

 

Crawfordsville goes 5-0 at North Putnam Invite

Crawfordsville’s boys wrestling team dominated the field at the North Putnam Invitational.

The Athenians beat North Vermillion 51-16, Speedway 50-22, Terre Haute South (JV) 68-10, South Putnam 47-30 and  North Putnam 58-21.

Going 5-0 on the day were Taiga Koyanagi (106), Amando Munoz (126), Landon Vaught (144), Braeden Hites (175) and Keegan Cokel (285).

Phoenix Hill (120, Aiden Hutchison (150) and John Pennington (190) were 4-1.

Calos Gutierrez (113) and Noe Torres (157) finished 3-2.

The Athenians wrestle at home against Seeger on Thursday.
