Armstrong advances to state
Fountain Central sophomore William Armstrong finished fourth out of 21 divers at the Plainfield Regional on Tuesday.
Armstrong will be making his second consecutive appearance at Friday’s IHSAA State Finals.
Two county divers saw their season come to an end. Crawfordsville’s Tryston Sauer finished in 15th place and North Montgomery’s Sam Woolwine finished in 18th place.
BASKETBALL
Chargers defeat North Putnam
North Montgomery took control early and cruised to a 67-50 win over North Putnam.
North Montgomery was led by senior Kelby Harwood’s 29 points.
The Chargers had contributions from several players. Cam Enlow added 13 points and Colton Arnold scored nine points on three 3-point baskets.
Sophomore Colon Zachary pulled down 13 rebounds for the Chargers.
North Montgomery (8-13) will conclude the regular season with a trip to Greencastle (16-6) on Friday.
Mounties lose to Cadets
Southmont’s senior night was ruined with a 64-49 home loss to Cascade.
The Cadets led at every break including a 35-25 lead at halftime.
Cascade scored the first seven points of the game before Mountie senior Lucas Oppy scored.
With the score tied 14-14, Cascade went on a 5-0 run to make the first quarter score 19-14.
South’s Aaron McMasters scored 19 points and Caden Miller added 10.
Southmont (15-7) will begin sectional play at 7:30 p.m. March 7 at Greencastle against the winner of the March 4 game between South Putnam and South Vermillion.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL
Charger seventh grade beats South, FC
North Montgomery Middle School’s girls seventh grade team defeated rival Southmont 20-6 on Monday.
The Chargers were led by Olivia Nuppnau who had eight points and seven rebounds.
Malea Carpenter and Bryn Fitch each garnered five rebounds.
No individual statistics were made available for the Mounties.
On Tuesday, the team defeated Fountain Central 29-11.
Nuppnau led the Chargers with 13 points and five rebounds. Carpenter added six points.
Amiya Welles led the Mustangs with six points.
The Chargers are 7-7 and will play Wainwright at home on Monday.
