Chargers drop holiday tourney opener
North Montgomery got off to a slow start at home in the opening game of the Kitchen Classic Holiday Tournament. Delphi defeated the Chargers 49-45.
Delphi (6-7) took command early in the game but North Montgomery cut the one time nine point lead to just 23-19 at the half.
The Chargers led at the end of three quarters 34-28. Several lead changes occurred in the final quarter until Delphi took control of the game from the free throw line in the final minute of the game. The Oracles were perfect on fine free throw attempts at the end of the game.
North Montgomery had shooting woes throughout the game.
The Chargers were led in scoring by Piper Ramey’s 22 points and Macee Norman added 16 points.
Delphi was led in scoring by 1,000 point scorer Jenna Roth who scored 26 points.
The rest of the tournament will be played at Delphi. The Chargers (10-4) will play 11 a.m. Friday against Taylor who was defeated 57-35 by Pioneer.
Other game results were Winamac 66, Frankfort 15 and Rossville 54, North Newton 22.

Delphi outlasts Chargers
North Montgomery fell short on Friday to Delphi 57-51 at home in the opening round game of the Kitchen Classic Holiday Tournament.
Delphi jumped out to an early 15-10 lead in the opening quarter and led 31-26 at halftime.
The Chargers were able to lead 40-39 going into the final stanza before being outscored 18-14.
Free throw shooting hurt the Chargers as they were only able to connect on 9-of-16 attempts.
Kelby Harwood was the game’s leading scorer with 28 points and was the team’s only double-digit scorer.
Walker Jones led the Delphi (4-3) with 19 points. Kayden McAtee and Braydin Gleason each added 10 points apiece.
North Montgomery (2-5) can now place no higher than in fifth place. They will play Pioneer (3-4 ) at 11 a.m. Thursday at Delphi High School. Pioneer lost 42-27 against Taylor.
Other tournament game results were Winamac 61, Frankfort 59 and Rossville 63, North Newton 33.
