Mounties win Friday thriller

With the score tied at 57 apiece. Southmont’s Aaron McMasters was fouled at the final buzzer on a 3-point attempt. The senior missed his first three throw, but sent the Mountie faithful home happy by making his second attempt. The final score was 58-57.

The game was close the entire time with the Mounties trailing 35-32 at half.  The Mounties won the final quarter 17-12 to secure the victory.

Mountie Austin Foley led his team with 17 points. Vince Reimondo and Evan Watson scored 13 and 11, respectively.

Seeger (6-6) was led by Macyn Hughes’ 18 points.

Southmont (9-2) will entertain Covington on Friday and will be at home Saturday for a re-match against county rival Crawfordsville.

 

Chargers drop Friday game

North Montgomery played at Danville on Friday and came home on the short end of a 75-37 score.

The Warriors jumped out to a 10-0 lead but after a quick Charger timeout the Chargers scored the next nine points to make the score 10-9. Danville had a 17-11 first quarter lead but the game never got closer.

The entire second half was played with a running clock.

Danville’s offense was on point and the Charger defense was swamped. Danville’s Jace Scrafton scored 16 points in just 21 minutes as both coaches cleared their benches early in the game.

The Chargers were led by Colten Arnold’s 14 points and Kelby Harwood’s 12 points. Harwood did not play in the final quarter.

North Montgomery (4-8, 0-3 SAC) will host Lebanon on Friday in a girl/boy doubleheader.

 

Mustangs lose to WRC foes

Fountain Central lost to Wabash River Conference foe South Vermillion 50-42 on Friday and Seeger 48-45 on Saturday.

No individual statistics were available.

The Mustangs (3-9, 0-3 WRC) will play at Crawfordsville on Friday.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mounties defeat Seeger

Southmont defeated Seeger 58-42 on Friday.

The Mounties led 23-22 at the half but took control of the game in the second half  by outscoring the Patriots 35-20 in the final two periods.

No individual statistics were made available.

Southmont (6-10) will play Frankfort at home on Thursday.

 

Warriors blast Chargers

Danville (16-4, 6-0 SAC) defeated North Montgomery on Friday 63-27 in a Sagamore Athletic Conference battle.

The Chargers fell behind early trailing 27-9 at the half.

Piper Ramey led the visitors with 13 points.

North Montgomery (13-7, 2-3 SAC) will play today at Seeger.

 

WRESTLING

Mustangs claim 4th in WRC

Fountain Central claimed fourth-place in the Wabash River Conference Championship on Saturday.

The Mustangs’ Dallas Simmons (120), Allan Melcher (132) and Dakoda Willoughby (144) were crowned champions.
