Athenians victorious in double dual meet
Crawfordsville girls and boys swim teams defeated Lafayette Jeff and Terre Haute North Vigo in a double dual meet Tuesday at CHS.
On the girls side, the Athenians defeated Lafayette Jeff 108-68 and Terre Haute North 119-64.
The girls 200 yard medley relay of Ellie Walker, Mabel Hoar, Mila Blackwell and Maesa Horton finished first (2:06.91).
Hoar won the 200 individual medley (2:38.19).
Horton finished first in the 50 free (26.11) and Sophia Melevage (26.91) and Blackwell (29.53) followed in second and third place, respectively.
Melevage picked up a first place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:03.53) and Blackwell took second place (1:12.41).
Walker, Horton and Katherine Novak took the top three finishes in the 100 free. Walker was first with a 59.07 followed by Horton (59.80) and Novak (59.97).
The girls 200 free relay team of Horton, Melevage, Marie Hesler and Walker finished first with a 1:47.99.
Walker won the 100 backstroke (1:07.85) and was followed by Novak in second (1:10.12).
Hoar and Remy Swinford finished first and second in the 100 breast with a 1:19.96 and 1:20.63, respectively.
The 400 free relay team of Novak, Blackwell, Hesler and Melevage took first place with a time of 4:05.62.
On the boys side, the Athenians defeated Lafayette Jeff 120-59 and Terre Haute North 123-42.
The boys 200 yard medley relay of Adrian Medina, Shawn Ewoldt, Jayden Callejas and Konner Hartlep finished first (1:51.53).
Medina won the 200 free (1:58.65).
Callejas won the 200 individual medley (2:19.46) and Ewoldt was second (2:19.87).
Tryston Sauer won the one meter diving with a score of 173.65.
The Athenians took first, second and third in the 100 butterfly. Konner Ellsbury finished first (1:03.56) followed by Jackson Miles (1:15.64) and Jaron Roche (1:17.53).
Callejas, Hartlep and Daniel Surface finished in the top three spots in the 100 free. Callejas was first (55.08) followed by Hartlep (55.84) and Surface (59.47).
The boys 200 free relay team of Medina, Hartlep, Ewoldt and Surface finished first with a time of 1:43.94.
Medina finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.43) and Braxton Lewellen was third (1:10.07).
Ewoldt won the 100 breast with a 1:05.63.
The 400 free relay team of Roche, Ellsbury, Lewellen and Miles finished first with a time of 3:57.12.
FC falls to Southmont
Members of the Fountain Central girls swim and dive team gave outstanding performances in the pool Tuesday — managing first and second place finishes in nearly every event — but were outnumbered by Southmont’s depth. The Mustangs fell to the Mounties 88-63.
The relay team of Mia Nix, Lilly Peterson, Lexi Willoughby and Allie Dotson came in first in the 200 medley relay.
Finishing first for the Mustangs were Peterson in the 200 individual medley; Peyton Hocking in diving; and Nix in the 100 backstroke.
In the 200 free, Kaitie Dillon placed second; Hannah Brownfield placed fifth; and Hayley Kler placed sixth.
Dotson finished second in the 50 free followed by Willoughby in third and Brownfield in fourth.
Esme Muniz placed second in diving.
Dotson placed third in the 100 free followed by Kler in fourth.
Dillon placed second in the 500 free and Peterson was second in the breaststroke.
The 400 free relay team of Nix, Dillon, Peterson and Dotson placed second.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
FC downs S. Vermillion
Fountain Central’s girls basketball team defeated South Vermillion 75-11 on Tuesday.
The Lady Mustangs hit the top of the leader board for defensive average in the state of Indiana. The Mustangs defense has caused issues for teams all season long, and it was no different for the Mustangs on Tuesday. They held their opponent to just 11 points in the four quarter match up. The Mustangs forced 27 turnovers in the win.
Several Mustangs were contributors in the conference win. KayLee Spragg was instrumental in the defensive performance with two steals, three blocks and pulling in seven rebounds. Rylee Simko had a big night. She not only earned a career high 27 points, but broke the school record for three pointers in a game hitting seven of them. She also earned a steal and an assist.
Halen McBride had a great night off of the bench scoring 14 points, pulling down four rebounds, and three steals. Brailey Hoagland was all over the stat sheet earning 12 points, eight steals, six assists and five rebounds. Henley Good made her presence known on both ends of the floor earning 11 points, eight assists, seven steals and two rebounds. Bella Bacon came off the bench and added a steal, five points and six rebounds. Aubrey Ashwill contributed by pulling down three rebounds, earning two steals and adding another two points. Hannah Prickett added two points, two assists, two rebounds and three steals. Cassandra Wildman rounds out the scoring with two points.
The Mustangs conclude regular season play at Riverton Parke today. Tip off will follow the second quarter JV game.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
North 7th grade girls split two
The North Montgomery seventh grade girls basketball team defeated Cascade 36-12.
The leading scorer for the Chargers was Olivia Nuppnau with 15 points. Malea Carpenter had seven points and Madi Horton added 6 points. Rounding the scorers were Bryn Fitch with four points and Bella Hutson and Alice Templeman each with two points.
North fell to Lebanon 31-15.
Nuppnau was the leading scorer with 11 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block. Fitch had two points and four steals. Horton had four rebounds and two steals.
Carpenter added 2 points, Templeman and four rebounds and one assist and Hutson had three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
