Post 72 wins two during weekend

Crawfordsville Legion Post 72 has now won five games in a row after winning two Saturday at Champaign, Illinois. Strong pitching in both games was the theme for the local Legion team.

After benefiting from a no-hit effort by McCutcheon graduate Aiden Riser, Post 72 had three pitchers limit Watseka, Illinois to just two hits in a 16-4 victory in five innings. Starter Drake Hoffa pitched two innings of hitless baseball followed by Landon Duncan who gave up one hit in two innings. Riley Sands pitched the final inning and allowed one hit. The trio combined for seven strikeouts.

Post 72 jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings. The team added three runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning.

Leading the 10-hit attack for Crawfordsville was Jude Coursey who was 4-for-5 and had five RBI. DJ Gilkey scored three runs after he walked each time.

Post 72 recorded 13 stolen bases in the game led by Riser with four.

In Saturday’s second game, Post 72 defeated Christian County, Illinois 4-2. Coursey pitched seven innings and surrendered six hits and struck out six.

Post 72 led 4-0 until Christian County put two runs on the board in the sixth inning.

Crawfordsville had just four hits in the game. Cale Chadd, Charlie Belcher, Jackson Warner and Carlos Lopez all had singles. All four hits were timely with each single producing one RBI.

Post 72 plays today at Tilton Field, Danville, Illinois.
