Chargers second at Covington

North Montgomery finished in second place at the Covington Invitational on Saturday at Rivercrest Golf Club.

Medalist in the 13 team event was Charger Neal Jeffery who shot a 77.

Other Charger scores were Beckett Martin 84, Konnor Koopman 84 and Kelby Harwood 91.

 

Mustangs compete at Covington Invite

Fountain Central placed ninth Saturday at the Covington Invitational.

The Mustangs were led by Will Armstrong with a personal best 88. Other Fountain Central scores were Eli Foxworthy 90 and Ayden Donaldson 92.

 

BASEBALL

Chargers lose to No. 8 Clinton Prairie

North Montgomery was defeated Saturday by 1A No. 8 Clinton Prairie. The Gophers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game.

Although the game was tied twice, the Chargers never trailed until the final frame.

Clinton Prairie scored the winning three runs with only one hit. The Gophers were aided by three walks and two batters being struck.

North Montgomery’s Nolyn Brown led his team’s offense with two hits, which included a double, and scored two runs. Cade Cole added two hits.

Gopher K. Jacobs was a thorn in the Chargers’ side all game. The junior was 4-for-4, had two RBI and scored one run.

Clinton Prairie (13-4) had five extra base hits, including two triples, against a trio of Charger hurlers.

North Montgomery (13-6, 5-4 SAC) will travel to Crawfordsville (7-9-1, 4-5 SAC) for a 6 p.m. game today and will host the Athenians at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Athenians beat Red Devils

Crawfordsville traveled Saturday to West Lafayette and won 5-1 in eight innings.

The Athenians plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the win. All the runs came after West Lafayette had recorded two outs. Singles by Mason McCarty and Blayne Willhite came in the deciding last at-bat.

Crawfordsville led 1-0 until the Red Devils tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.

The Athenians had seven hits in the game all by seven different players.

Athenian Henry Bannon pitched the last three innings to earn the win. Bannon surrendered no runs, no hits and struck out three Red Devils.

Crawfordsville (7-9-1, 4-5 SAC) will host North Montgomery at 6 p.m. Tuesday and will travel to North Montgomery (13-4, 5-4 SAC) for a 5:30 p.m. Thursday game.

 

Chargers beat Benton Central

North Montgomery defeated Benton Central 13-2 in five innings Friday.

Charger sophomore Aiden Ambriz-Cruz was 3-for-3 batting and scored three runs. He had one triple and one RBI.

Cade Cole had two hits, scored two runs and two RBI. Sophomore Cayden Keller also had two hits.

The Chargers scored six runs in each of the third and sixth innings.

 

Mounties drop close game

Southmont lost Friday to West Vigo 3-1 at New Market. The Vikings came-from-behind by scoring two runs to provide the difference in the sixth inning.

The Mounties had five hits and were led by Phisher Benge who collected two hits and one RBI. The junior had a good performance on the mound by pitching six innings and surrendering three hits and was credited with the three Viking runs.

Mountie Gunnar Shirk pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

West Vigo (12-7) had five hits in the game.

Southmont will play at 6 p.m. today at Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Lebanon (2-17, 0-9 SAC) and will entertain the Tigers at 6 p.m. Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Chargers drop twin bill

North Montgomery was defeated by Tri-County 10-0 and 16-1in a Saturday doubleheader. Both games were five innings.

The Charger offense was stagnant in both games. North had two hits in the first game and three hits in the second game.

Charger senior Piper Ramey had the only two hits in game one and had one more hit in the second game.

North Montgomery played at home against Cloverdale on Monday and will play at Crawfordsville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Mounties earn comeback win

Southmont played host Friday to Clinton Central and earned a come-from-behind win against the Bulldogs. The Mounties trailed 5-1 until plating five runs in their final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh frame.

Mountie Jayden Dagley had the walk off single in the final inning.

Southmont freshman Ella Barry threw all seven innings and gave up no earned runs and struck out 10 Bulldogs.

Kenzi Clate had three hits and three RBI for Southmont.

The Mounties played at North Putnam on Monday and will play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lebanon. The Tigers will travel to Southmont for a 5:30 p.m. game on Thursday.

TENNIS

Chargers place second at invite

North Montgomery placed second Saturday in their own invitational. The Chargers lost to Covington 4-1 in the championship match.

In early matches, the Chargers defeated Seeger 4-1 and Danville 4-1.

The Chargers’ No. 2 doubles team of Avery Gayler and Caelyn Carpenter finished the day 3-1.

No individual results were reported.

 

Mustangs win own invite

Fountain Central scored victories Saturday over McCutcheon, Lebanon and South Putnam in their own Mustang Invitational.

Fountain Central had four of the five individual championships.

Winning for the Mustangs with 2-0 records were No. 1 singles Alydia Mellady, No. 2 singles Elise Webb and No. 3 singles Laney Hoagland. Fountain Centrals No. 2 doubles team of Savannah Bowers and Josie Harshbarger also went 2-0.

Fountain Central wraps up dual match play Thursday at Benton Central.
