Athenians topple Chargers
Crawfordsville took advantage of opportunities and defeated visiting rival North Montgomery 3-1 in Sagamore Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.
It was a game that featured solid pitching, which made runs difficult to come by. Both starting pitchers went the distance in the game.
Athenian Jude Coursey limited the North batters to just two hits and pitched his way out of a seventh inning jam when the Chargers had bases loaded.
Coursey gave up three hits and struck out six and issued just two walks. The senior did not allow a hit until Charger Aiden Ambriz-Cruz beat out a grounder in the sixth frame.
Crawfordsville got on the board in the second inning with two runs. Jacob Lee hit an RBI single to centerfield driving in Jayden Jimenez who had walked to open the inning and was later sacrificed to second.
Later in the inning Crawfordsville scored their second run on a called balk by Charger pitcher Keaton Brown.
North Montgomery’s Brown was solid in just his second start of the season. The junior allowed four hits and struck out five.
Crawfordsville (8-9-1, 5-5 SAC) will travel today to North Montgomery (13-7, 5-5) for a 5:30 p.m. game.
Tigers beat Mounties
Southmont traveled to Lebanon on Tuesday and lost 4-2 in a Sagamore Athletic Conference ball game.
Tiger pitcher Luke Dunshee shined by pitching a complete game and surrendered just five hits and one earned run. The junior stuck out eight Mounties.
No individual statistics were available for the Mounties.
Lebanon (3-18, 1-9 SAC) will travel Thursday to Southmont (3-14, 1-9 SAC) for 6 p.m. game.

Chargers earn win over Athenians
North Montgomery exploded for 26 runs Tuesday at Sagamore Athletic Conference and county rival Crawfordsville. The Chargers defeated the Athenians 26-3.
The Chargers scored five runs in each of the first and second innings followed by 12 runs in the third inning. North added four more runs in the fourth frame.
The Chargers had 20 hits in the game. Every North Montgomery starter had at least one hit with seven players recording multiple hits.
North Montgomery’s Ella McManomy had five RBI.
Chargers Sophia Welch and Piper Ramey each had a homerun with four RBI.
Crawfordsville scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Molly Pierce delivered a two-RBI double.
Charger pitcher Ramey went the distance and allowed three hits while striking out eight.
Crawfordsville (2-18, 0-10 SAC) will play at 5:30 p.m. today at North Montgomery (8-14, 3-7 SAC).
Mounties beat Tigers
Southmont defeated Lebanon 8-2 on Tuesday in a Sagamore Athletic Conference game.
The Mounties outhit the Tigers 11-8 in the game.
The visiting Southmont wasted little time to score. The Mounties put up six runs in the opening inning.
Four Mounties, Anna Stokes, Kenzie Clate, Kenzie Douglas and Mallory Mason, had two hits apiece.
Mountie freshman Ella Barry pitched a complete six-hit game and recorded seven strikeout and no earned runs.
The two teams will tangle again at 5:30 p.m. today at Southmont (13-7, 7-3 SAC).
