Mounties drop SAC game
Southmont played Monday at Danville in a Sagamore Athletic Conference game. The Mounties fell just short with a 5-3 score.
The Mounties had their chances to win the game. In the last inning, Southmont had bases loaded but could not get any runners home.
The Mounties opened the game with two runs in their first at-bat when Gunnar Shirk lined a base hit into left field scoring Cale Chadd and Dean McGaughey.
The Warriors were able to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning and scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Southmont had seven hits in the game, while Danville accumulated nine.
McGaughey was 3-for-4 and Shirk was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Southmont (3-11, 1-7 SAC) played host to Danville (6-9, 4-4 SAC) on Tuesday.
TENNIS
Athenians beat Danville
Crawfordsville traveled Monday to Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Danville and came home with a 4-1 victory.
Winning for the Athenians were No. 1 singles Reagan Cox (6-1, 7-5) and No. 3 singles Caroline Bowling (6-3. 3-6. 6-3); as well as No. 1 doubles of Isla Seward and Alayna Hall (6-1, 6-1) and No. 2 doubles team of Emma Buser and Elliott Baker (6-2, 6-3).
SOFTBALL
Lebanon defeats C’ville
Crawfordsville played Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Lebanon at home on Monday. The Tigers beat the Athenians 10-6.
After Crawfordsville tied the game at 3-3 in the third inning, the Tigers scored six runs in the next three innings.
The Athenians tried to come back in the final inning and scored three runs to complete the game’s scoring.
Athenian catcher Christina Susdorf led her team’s offense going 3-for-3 at the plate. She also scored two runs and added one RBI.
Crawfordsville Celeste Moore had two hits and scored two runs.
The Athenians (1-14, 0-7 SAC) played Western Boone on Tuesday and will play the Stars at 5:30 p.m. today at the Athenian Complex.
GOLF
Athenians beat North Putnam
Crawfordsville defeated North Putnam 186-232 on Monday at the Twin Bridges Golf Club.
Athenian Owen Pierce won his first medalist title by shooting a 41.
Other Athenian scores were Caiden Murray 47, Colten Custer 47 and Jade Hurt 51.
Crawfordsville will travel Thursday to Harrison Hills to take on Attica and Seeger.
