South swept by Danville
Southmont dropped both games of a doubleheader Tuesday at Danville. The Warriors won the first game 9-2 and the second game 4-3.
Trailing 4-2 in the final inning in the second game, a Mountie comeback effort fell one run short.
South had five hits in the game and Danville had eight.
In the first game, Southmont struggled hitting the ball. The Mounties had just three hits while surrendering 12 to the Warriors.
No individual statistics were available.
The games were key in the SAC race. Danville is now 11-5 (8-1 SAC) and Southmont drops to 11-6 (6-3 SAC).
Athenians lose at Webo
Crawfordsville gave up 10 first inning runs to Western Boone on Tuesday and eventually lost 12-2 in five innings on the Stars’ home field.
The Athenians actually led 2-0 the Sagamore Conference contest after their first at-bat but did not score again in the game.
Crawfordsville was outhit 12-4. All four hits were from one player each.
Crawfordsville (1-15, 0-8 SAC) hosted Western Boone (12-3, 8-1 SAC) on Wednesday.
Chargers lose to Tigers
Lebanon came to North Montgomery on Tuesday and outlasted the Chargers in a Sagamore Conference game 13-9 despite leading 6-3 after four innings. The homestanding Chargers gave up nine runs to the Tigers in the last two innings.
Both teams had success at the plate. North Montgomery had 19 hits and Lebanon had 16.
The Chargers had three home runs in the game. Ella McManomy, Paisley Gillan and Piper Ramey hit round trippers.
Sophie Welshimer, Gillan and Ramey had three hits apiece for the Chargers. Ramey had three RBI.
Mustangs beat Attica
Fountain Central defeat Wabash River Conference foe Attica 11-7 on Tuesday. The Mustangs led the entire game after scoring five runs in the first two innings.
Mustang Jacqueline Weber was dominate at the plate. She had three hits, including two home runs with seven RBI.
Fountain Central’s Lillian Bennett pitched a complete game and gave up no earned runs with six strikeouts.
BASEBALL
Athenians drop game to Webo
Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Western Boone defeated Crawfordsville 11-1 in five innings in Dover on Tuesday.
Star pitcher Quentin Westerfield held the Athenians to two hits in the game.
Crawfordsville committed four errors in the game compared to two by Western Boone.
Crawfordsville (6-8, 4-4 SAC) played host to Western Boone (9-8, 5-3 SAC) on Wednesday and will travel Saturday to West Lafayette.
Chargers roll Tigers
North Montgomery rolled past Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Lebanon 15-1 in five innings at Charger Field on Tuesday.
The Chargers scored seven runs in the first inning before the Tigers got their first out. North Montgomery pounded out 16 hits in the game.
Leading the offense for North Montgomery (11-5, 4-4 SAC) were Tucker Hinds who was 3-for-3, with one RBI and one run and Nolyn Brown who also was 3-for-3 including a triple and scored two runs.
Charger Aiden Ambriz-Cruz was 2-for-3 and collected three RBI. Jack Warren and Keaton Brown each added two hits.
Charger Cade Cole recorded the win by pitching four innings.
The two teams will battle again at 6 p.m. today at Lebanon (2-14, 0-8 SAC).
Mounties lose to Danville
Southmont lost Tuesday to Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Danville 9-0 at home.
The game was 3-0 with the Warriors leading but the visitors scored six runs in the final inning.
Southmont was held to five hits in the game with Gunnar Shirk having two of the hits.
The Mounties had five errors in the game.
Danville had 11 hits and no errors.
Southmont (3-12, 1-8 SAC) will be off until Tuesday when they travel to Lebanon.
Mustangs beat Red Ramblers
Fountain Central won a home Wabash River Conference game Tuesday against Attica 11-1.
Mustang Urian Wildman earned the win on the mound and had two hits, two RBI and
scored two runs.
Fountain Central’s J. Weber was 3-for-5, scored three runs and had seven RBI. Weber had
two homeruns. M. Massey had two hits one of which was a home run.
Fountain Central (4-13, 4-7 WRC) played Wednesday at Clinton Prairie and will host Attica today.
GOLF
Mounties beat Cascade
Southmont traveled Tuesday to Deer Creek to tee it up with Cascade. The Mounties came away
an 188-202 winner.
Scoring for the Mounties were medalist Austin Foley 41, Carter Ludlow 46, Kooper Charles
50 and Ethan Hutchison 51.
Chargers beat Lebanon
North Montgomery’s golf team remained undefeated with a 168-177 victory over Lebanon.
Chargers Neal Jeffery and Rohen Barnes tied for medalist honors with a score of 39.
Beckett Martin and Kelby Harwood each shot 45 for the Chargers.
Fountain Central loses in match play
Fountain Central played a different format against one of the WRC conference’s top teams in Covington and lost 39.5 to 14.5. The match play format offers 54 total points available and each team competes to win a hole versus their single opponent to win a point.
Six players per team competed.
The Mustang linksters were led by Eli Foxworthy who tied his lowest score of the year with a 41 and finished in a tie with Covington’s No. 1 player to win 4 1/2 points. Dakoda Willoughby shot his best score of the year with a 44 and won 4 points. William Armstrong recovered from a slow start and won 3 1/2 points.
TENNIS
Athenians win again
Crawfordsville defeated Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Western Boone 3-2 at home on Tuesday.
Crawfordsville’s wins came from their singles players. Winning for the Athenians were No. 1 singles Reagan Cox (4-6, 6-3, 6-0), No. 2 Singles CC Cox (6-3, 6-3) and No.3 singles Caroline Bowling (2-6, 6-0, 7-6).
Mustangs blank Tri-West
Fountain Central improved its record to 10-1 with a home court 5-0 victory over Tri-West on Tuesday.
Winning for the Mustangs were No. 1 singles Alydia Mellady (6-1, 6-1), No. 2 singles Elise Webb (6-2, 6-0) and No. 3 singles Esma Muniz (6-1, 6-0).
Fountain Central No. 1 doubles team of Lilly Peterson and Hannah Pickett (6-0, 6-0) won as did the No. 2 doubles team of Josie Harshbarger and Savannah Bowers (6-1, 6-2).
TRACK & FIELD
Athenians defeat Bison
Crawfordsville soundly defeated Benton Central on Tuesday in both the girls’ and boys’ meet.
The Athenian girls won 83-45 and the boys won 97-40.
Winning for the Crawfordsville girls were Alea Seward, 100 M. (12.68) and 200 M. (26.72); Caroline Melevage, 400 M. (2:32.33); Katherine Novak, 3200 (12:27.00); Aubrey Lowe, 100 Hurdles (16.79); and Guinevere Schmitzer-Torbert, 300Hurdles (48.82). The Crawfordsville girls also won the 4x100 Relay (52.42) and 4x400 (4:14.11).
In field events, Riley Gardner won High Jump (5’4”); Ally Johnson won Pole Vault (8’6”); Lily
Hubbard won Long Jump (15’16 1/2”); and Ellie Walker won Shot Put (32’10”).
Winning for the Crawfordsville boys were Wyatt Motz, 100 M. (11.19); Max Brummett, 400 M. (54.15); Jantzen Thayer 800 M. (2:11.35); Josh Inskeep, 1600 M. (4:58.26); 3200 Hutton Haas
3200 (10:58.22); and Alec Saidian, 110 M. Hurdles (15.06) and 300 Hurdles (43.17).
The Crawfordsville boys also won the 4x400 Relay.
In field events, Crawfordsville winners were Nasyre Byard, Pole Vault (8’6”) ; Maddox Ronco, Long Jump (19’10”); and Jaden Leap, Shot Put (41’6”).
