South falls to Clinton Central
Southmont traveled to Clinton Central on Saturday and lost 35-25.
The Mounties were down 18-9 at the half but could not overcome the Bulldog’s advantage.
The Mounties play today at North Vermillion.
Chargers drop opener
North Montgomery’s girls basketball team lost to the highly regarded Parke Heritage 63-21 at home in the season opener for both ball clubs.
The Chargers struggled from the field throughout the game against the Wolves. Parke Heritage led 17-4 after one quarter and the game never got closer.
The Chargers were held to eight field goals and missed all of their three-point attempts.
Senior Macee Norman led North Montgomery with seven points. Only four Chargers broke into the scoring column.
Parke Heritage had eight players score points led by senior Emma Simpson’s 21 points.
The Chargers traveled to Emminence on Monday and will play Frontier at home Thursday.
Athenians lose to Patriots
Crawfordsville’s girls basketball team lost 66-34 at Seeger on Thursday after being outscored in every quarter.
Crawfordsville (1-1) were down 28-14 at halftime.
The Athenians are home today against North Putnam.
Mustangs go 2-1 early in season
Fountain Central’s girls basketball team is off to a 2-1 start.
The Mustangs beat West Lafayette 32-20 on Nov. 5.
On Nov. 7, Clinton Prairie defeated Fountain Central in a close 30-28 game.
Fountain Central won 51-14 at home on Nov. 8 against Frankfort. The Mustangs jumped out to a 20-2 lead at the end of the first period.
The Mustangs’ leading scorer in the game was Henley Good with 19 points. Hannah Prickett added 13 points.
Fountain Central will host Clinton Central tonight.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Chargers place fifth at Invite
North Montgomery placed fifth out of 27 teams in the New Palestine Invitational on Saturday.
In the 125 class, Ash Koons placed fourth. Two Chargers placed in the 130 class — Sophia Shea placed eighth and Haylee Gemino was fifth.
Jovie Simpkins placed fifth in the 135 class.
In the 145 class, Charger Hailey Kunz was the champion with a 4-0 record including one bye. On her way to the title she defeated wrestlers from Franklin Central, Warren Central and Ben Davis.
Two other Chargers placed in the 145 class. Paige Yarger finished in third place and Shanice Williams placed sixth.
Charger Chloe Douglas secured a third place finish in the 190 class by going 3-1 on the day.
The Chargers will host Twin Lakes on Thursday. The match will be the first girls dual meet in school history.
Athenians compete at Parke Heritage
Crawfordsville had four wrestlers compete at the Parke Heritage Invitational.
Kassidy Richmond was the 145 champion with a 5-0 record and Michelle Montes was the 170 runner-up with a 3-2 record.
Jatzmen Russell was fifth in the 170 class.
Crawfordsville will wrestle Saturday at Speedway.
