Chargers down Delphi

North Montgomery defeated Delphi 4-1 on Thursday.

All three singles players were able to record victories. No. 1 Beckett Martin defeated Willy Wood 6-1, 6-3.  No. 2 Cade Cole won 6-0, 6-0 over Quentin Stankard and No. 3 Dane Elliott defeated Brady Warenski 6-3, 6-2.

The Chargers’ No. 1 doubles team of Carter Thompson and Austin Biddle lost to Bradyn Glenson and Laken Wakerman 1-6, 3-6. North’s No.2 doubles team of Keaton Brown and Cayden Keller won 6-4, 6-3 over Haden Helms and Lincoln Parks.

Charger coach Devon Plant complimented some of his players after the match.

“Cade Cole was ‘Steady Eddie’ as always and Beckett Martin played extremely well,” Plant said. “We still have a lot of work to do before this weekend’s invite, but it is good to pick up another win.”

North Montgomery (3-2) will participate in the McCutcheon Invitational on Saturday and host Covington on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Charger coach garners 100th win

North Montgomery girls’ soccer team defeated Twin Lakes 6-3 on Thursday. The win was the 100th victory for Charger coach Julie Hodges.

Chargers Gracie Ratcliff and Ava Nunam each scored two goals. Taylor Hudson and Genesis Reyes each added one goal apiece.

Reyes set a school record with four assists. Ratcliff recorded one assist.

“Our offense was clicking tonight, and we were able to see the passing lanes to connect our passes very well,” Hodges said. “We possess the ball better, which is what we have been working on. It was good to see us implement what we have been working on in practice.”

The Chargers play at Lebanon on Saturday and will host Benton Central on Tuesday.

 

South loses in OT

Southmont’s girls’ soccer team played Sagamore Conference foe Danville until the last minute of overtime on Thursday. After battling even at 1-1 at the end of regulation, Danville scored the winning goal at the 14-minute mark of the 15-minute extra period.

Mountie Kaelynn Sanburn scored the lone goal for Southmont on a Jessica Hale assist.

“We played a great game,” Mountie coach Angela Williams said. “We had a good game passing and working as a team. Our defense, midfield and offense were on it tonight. It is great to see this team coming together.”

Southmont travels to Frankfort on Tuesday for another SAC contest.

 

GOLF

South wins three-way

Southmont traveled to The Ravines Golf Club and defeated the Mavericks and North Montgomery on Thursday. The Mounties edged out McCutcheon by one stroke 190-191. The Chargers shot 228.

Southmont’s Addison Meadows was the medalist. The senior shot a 2-over-par 38. Other Mountie scores were Addison Kendricks 46, Kelsey Thompson 49, and Kate Myers 57,

“Considering the tees played were over 400 yards more than we are usually play, I was very happy with our scores,” Southmont Coach Bill Whalen said.

The Mounties also won on their Senior Night on Wednesday. They defeated Danville 198-228.

The Mountie seniors of Meadows and Kendricks were celebrated.

“Both of our seniors have had a tremendous impact on our golf program during their four years,” Whalen said.

Southmont’s dual record is 12-2. The team will travel to North Putnam on Tuesday.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Athenians top Red Ramblers

Crawfordsville won at Attica 3-0 on Thursday. Set scores were 25-9, 25-10, 25-7.

Athenian Reese Price led the team with 17 kills and Ally Strickland recorded seven kills.

Crawfordsville’s Claire Peacock had 38 assists and seven digs. Alexis Ratcliff had six aces.

The Athenians will play at West Lafayette on Saturday and will host North Vermillion on Tuesday.

 

Cadets beat Mounties

Southmont dropped a 3-1 match to Cascade on Thursday.

Cascade won the first two sets 14-26 and 20-25. The Mounties won 25-22 before losing the final game 24-26.

Catie Himes led the Mounties with 13 kills, 21 digs and four aces. Freshman Ella Barry continued her strong play with 11 kills and two aces.

Mountie Mallory Mason had 33 assists and Kenzie Douglas recorded three blocks.

Southmont will host Clinton Prairie on Monday and travel to Tri-West on Tuesday.
