Montgomery County Commissioners recognized two Montgomery County probation officers for their extraordinary work on Monday.

Probation officers Lindsey Villalpando and Brenda Payne were recently awarded a United States Attorney Award for Project Safe Childhood Shield of Innocence.

Chief Probation Officer Andria Geigle reported Villalpando and Payne had worked together to discover a problem occurring with one of the cases they were working. It was discovered an adult in the child’s home was collecting child pornography. The FBI took the case and the perpetrator was tied and sent to serve a 90-year prison sentencing.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office commended the two Montgomery County employees for exceptional service, vigilance and dedication to protecting vulnerable youth.

Drug Free Montgomery County Coordinator Diamond Justice presented her plan to distribute 2026 Opioid Settlement Grant funds for commissioner approval.

There is $147,000 to be used for Drug Free programs. One change this year is due to the fact state legislators have significantly cut county health department budgets across the state. In order to replace some matching state funds to help pay for the coordinator;s salary, some of the grant funds will be used. Previously the county health department paid one-half of the coordinator’s salary.

Commissioners approved the plan.

An offer from the Indiana Department of Transportation to pay the county $5,396 for the restoration of the unofficial detour route during the State Road 32 project was approved.

Commissioners approved two bids to replace roofs of two Crawfordsville properties with the Thrive West Central home refurbish program. The roofs at 711 S. Grant and 805 E. Chestnut will be replaced in the amounts of $7,500 and $10,200, respectively.

West Central is still looking for more insured roofing contractors for the program.

An ordinance for right-of-way and private application for road dust control was approved.

Right of way fees are $100 for boring per permit and private application of dust control materials permits will have a fee of $20.

The next commissioner’ meeting is at 8 a.m. June 23 at the Montgomery County Government Center.
