Record-setting score puts Wabash third at 2025 NCAC Swimming and Diving Championships

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Wabash breached the 1,300-point mark at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships for the first time in school history to lock up third place on the final night of competition at the Trumbull Aquatics Center at Denison University.

Wabash scored a school-record 1,339.5 points over thee four days of the championships, eclipsing the previous high-water mark of 1,264 points scored at the 2020 NCAC meet. Denison won the 2025 men’s conference title with 2,61.5 points with Kenyon in second place with 1,642 points. Oberlin trailed in fourth place with 1,070 points, followed by Wooster (1,016 points), DePauw (967.5 points), Ohio Wesleyan (413 points), Hiram (412.5 points), and Wittenberg (314 points).

Freshman Mason Gilliam earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. He posted an NCAA “B” cut time of 15:45.33 to break the Wabash school record of 15:49.50 set by Chris Dombrowski in 2018. Xander Straw scored an eighth-place finish in in 1650 by posting a time of 16:40.09. William Renie added an 11th-place finish with a personal-best time of 16:48.97. Dane Market finished in 15th place with his time of 17:11.11. Nicholas Sommers finished the 1650 in 17:51.37 to earn a 17th-place finish.

Ryan West broke the Wabash record in the 200-yard backstroke by turning in an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:48.24 to earn All-NCAC honors with a third place finish. He broke the old school record of 1:50.64 set by Nicholas Plumb last year. Plumb also competed in the “A” final of the 200 back, finishing in seventh place with a time of 1:52.11. Sommers competed in the “B” final, finishing in 1:56.89 to capture tenth place. Barret Smith finished one place back in 11th with a time of 1:57.07.

Ethan Johns tied for seventh place in the “A” final of the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 45.75. Daniel Streeter scored a 13th-place finish in the “B” final with a personal-best time of 47.30.

Brody Page finished in seventh place in the “A” final of the 200-yard butterfly by turning in a personal-best time of 1:56.63. Quinn Sweeney finished in eight place in the “A” final with a time of 1:56.70. Plumb competed in the “B” final, placing 11th with a time of 1:56.15. Gilliam added a 14th-place finish in the “B” final with his time of 1:58.22 after posting a personal-best time of 1:57.70 in the morning session.

Page finished in tenth place in the “B” final of the 100-yard individual medley by posting a personal-best time of 53.32. Connor Craig finished one spot back in 11th place wth a time of 54.15. Justice Wenz finished in 14th place with a time of 55.45. Eddie DaMata added a 17th-place finish in the “B” final with a time of 56.45. Cooper Kowalski turned in a personal-best time of 56.81 in the “C” final of the 100 IM to earn a 23rd-place finish.

Wenz added a 15th-place finish in the “B” final of the 200-yard breaststroke by posting a time of 2:09.91. Kowalski finished in 17th place in the “B” final by touching the wall for the final time in 2:14.28 after turning in a personal-best time of 2:12.92 in the morning prelims. Market placed 21st in the “C” final with a time of 2:11.61.

Five Little Giant divers scores in the three-meter competition Saturday evening. Alexander Aruzza scored a personal-best 290.45 points to place fifth overall in the three-meter finals. Nicolas Hakimian scored 251.60 points to finish seventh overall. Michael Cruzado added a ninth-place finish with a personal-best score of 230.55. Christopher Wiatr placed tenth overall with a score of 210.15 points. Garrett Mroz produced a personal-best effort of 207.20 points to finish 11trh overall.

Wabash closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Johns, Sweeney, Streeter, and Craig combined for a time of 3:05.62.

Wabash will host a last-chance meet on Sunday at the Crawfordsville Aquatics Center beginning at 2 p.m.
