REMC Multi-County Community Trust met Tuesday and awarded grants totaling $11,281 to three area nonprofits through the Operation Roundup Program.
Board members Terry Bruner, Kathy Collom, Sally Curley, Chris Sanders, Marilee Pearson, Mike Rissler, Sharon Harmon and Diana Ruark approved a grant of $5,000 to the Putnam County Giving Tree to help provide Christmas gifts and ALDI’s gift cards to families in need residing in Putnam County. Waveland Volunteer Fire Department received $6,047 to help purchase and install a Generac Generator. The generator will allow the volunteers to provide additional service readiness and back up support for regular and mutual aid areas. The Clay County Genealogical Society received $234.80 to purchase 12 new signs to direct visitors to their location.
Operation Round Up is a voluntary program set up for Parke County REMC consumers, with more than 9,000 participants agreeing to have their monthly electric billings “rounded up” to the nearest dollar. With an average donation of around $4-$6 per year, these contributions are then pooled, placed in the Multi-County Community Trust and awarded to worthy non-profit groups, organizations and eligible individuals within the Parke County REMC service territory which includes Clay, Fountain, Montgomery, Parke, Putnam and Vigo counties.
