Posted

REMC Multi-County Community Trust met June 8 and awarded grants totaling $11,978.16 to area nonprofits through the Operation Roundup program. The board of trustees reviewed all submitted applications and granted monies to the following:

• Parke County Resource Center received $3,000 to help supply the pantry with additional food and hygiene items for anyone in need in the community.

• Russellville Community Volunteer Fire Department received $5,564.40 to purchase two portable radios.

• North Central Parke Robotics Teams, consisting of students from Parke Heritage Middle School, Rockville Elementary and Turkey Run Elementary, received $813.76. This money will be used to purchase the competition board and cover registration costs for one team at each school.

• Clay County Historical Society was awarded $600 to help purchase paint and supplies for the historic cabins at Forest Park, which are owned and maintained by the museum.

• The Putnam County Community Emergency Response Team received $2,000 to help fund training for successful search and rescue situations involving individuals who are prone to wandering.

Operation Round-Up is a voluntary program set up for Parke County REMC consumers, with more than 9,000 participants agreeing to have their monthly electric billings “rounded up” to the nearest dollar each month. Those rounded-up pennies are then placed in the Multi-County Community Trust to be awarded by an all-volunteer Board to various non-profit groups and organizations within Parke County REMC’s service territory. Donations are tax deductible, and each individual members’ yearly contribution total, about $5-$7 per year, is included in their monthly statement each January and February.

The application deadline for the next cycle is Sept. 7. Nonprofit groups or organizations who are interested in applying for funds may obtain an application at Parke County REMC, www.pcremc.com or by calling 765-569-3133 (800-537-3913).
