Rex Lynn Mapes, 67, of Wingate passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born March 18, 1953, at Crawfordsville, to the late Harold Perle and Erma Margaret (Redifer) Mapes.
Rex graduated from New Market High School in 1970 and married the love of his life, Martha Brown, on Nov. 17, 1973. Throughout the years, he was a truck driver, worked at the Montgomery County Highway Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department as a jail officer and jail commander. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, model trains and was a ham radio operator.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha; three children, Greg Mapes, Andria (Nicholas) Geigle and Ryan (Megan) Mapes; five grandchildren, Ethan, Ashlynn, Logan, Lucas and Kyle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Richard Harris, Rolland Harris and Larry Harris.
Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St., Crawfordsville, on Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 1p.m. until the time of the celebration of life at 2 p.m., with Celebrant Dennis Horn officiating. The service will be live-streamed and recorded which can be viewed on Rex’s obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.
