Ritual team wins sixth championship

The Crawfordsville Eagles Aerie 1005 Ritual Team competed Aug. 1 in Columbus, Ohio, against other teams from across the United States and Canada, and won its sixth championship.

The ritual is performed when applicants are initiated into the order. Judging is based on appearance, words, punctuation, gestures and movements and is all done from memory. Judging is scored to 1/1,000th of a point. The Crawfordsville team scored a 99.987.

Some members of the team also competed individually in different categories. In the shotgun category, Ralph Edwards and Terry Smith, scored 100 and 99.8, respectively. In the sure shot division, Alan Homsher scored 100, Jim Shahan scored 99.8 and Greg Dargie scored 99.5.

The motto of the Eagles is “People Helping People” and the organization donates money to several local, state and national charities. This fraternal year state presidents are joining forces to support Special Olympics.
