Robert A. Vessels, 89, of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East.
Robert was born Jan. 26, 1933, at Fowler, to the late Stanley and Elsie (Yarno) Vessels. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955.
On Dec. 10, 1955, he married his first wife Lorraine Saarela in Fowler. She preceded him in death Dec. 9, 1991. On May 21, 1992, he married Sheryl “Joan” Marsh in Las Vegas. She survives.
Robert worked for Alcoa Manufacturing for more than 32 years. He attended St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and was a member of American Legion Post #11, the Eagles (where he was a lifetime Golden Eagle) and the VFW. Robert enjoyed riding bikes, doing word-find puzzles, gardening, reading and tormenting his wife.
Along with his wife, Joan, he is survived by his children, Debbie (Scott) Howser, Lori Brady, Kimberly Kelp, Laura (Bryan) Donaldson and Jamie (Tina) Puckett; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Lorraine, Robert was preceded in passing by his daughter, Peggy Daniel, one sister and three brothers.
There will be a private family service for Robert held at a later date.
