On Sunday, April 11, 2021, Robert Jay Lewellen took the hand of Jesus at the age of 68 years old.

He was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on June 28, 1952, to Robert and Mary Lewellen. He graduated from Waveland High School in 1971, then joined the Air Force and served for four years in Okinawa, Japan.

He is survived by two sons, Paul Lewellen of Villa Platte, Louisiana, and Christian Lewellen, Denver, Colorado; a grandson, Ernest, Oklahoma; three sisters, Pat Mason, Crawfordsville, Alana Smith, Elbert, Colorado and Mary Beth Kirk, Noblesville; and brother Richard Lewellen, Mount Vernon, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his mother, Mary; niece Anakela; and nephew Joel.

Bobby Jay, as most of us knew him, always had a joke to tell and a great infectious laugh. He loved to laugh with you or at you at a gag he pulled on you. He had the most beautiful bass voice and grew up singing with his brothers and sisters in church, at a reunion or anywhere.

He was an active member of a band and chorus led by one of his most favorite people, Mrs. Janet “Mom” Campbell, whom he always kept in contact with.

He will be cremated in Louisiana and a service will be held this summer “Back Home Again in Indiana” with details to be determined later by the family.
