Robert Larry Gray, 81, of the Moosehaven Senior Living Community in Orange Park, Florida, and formerly of Crawfordsville, died Sept. 30, 2021, of respiratory failure due to COVID-19.

He was born June 10, 1940, at Indianapolis, to Robert Harry and Sarah Margaret (Cornett) Gray. He graduated from New Ross High School in 1958. Larry retired from the Allison Engine Division of General Motors in 1993 and then worked at Town & Country Home Center and the former Big R store.

Larry married Judianne Paddack Carpenter Gray on Feb. 1, 1974, at Crawfordsville. She survives.

He also is survived by five sons, Eric (Teresa) Gray of Lake City, Florida, Sean (Debbie) Gray of Rockville, Rodney (Anita) Carpenter of Samford, Connecticut, Chuck (Ellie) Carpenter of Summerville, South Carolina, and Henry (Cathy) Carrell of Waynetown; sister Nancy (Jim) Link of Crawfordsville; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons.

Larry was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose since 1979 where he held all lodge offices, District President, State Membership Chairman and Deputy Supreme Governor for Southern Indiana. He received his Fellowship Degree of Honor in 2003 and his Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 2012. Larry was an active supporter of the Mooseheart Child City & School and Moosehaven.

Larry was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Darlington and attended the First Christian Church in Lebanon.

No funeral service is planned. His remains will be interred in Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington.
