Roger Alan Lightle, 73, formerly of Veedersburg passed away at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 at University Place in West Lafayette.

Roger was born Aug. 3, 1947, at Danville, Illinois, the son of Walter “Poke” and Dorothy E. (Froedge) Lightle. He was formerly married to Nancy Z. (Rennison) Frey; and they were blessed with two children, Ty and Lana.

Surviving family include: son Ty (fiancé Mandi) Lightle, Bridgeton; daughter Lana (Doug) Walton, Veedersburg; three grandchildren, Bryson Scott, Bailey Scott and Kenli Walton.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard “Dick” Lightle.

Roger graduated from Fountain Central High School in 1966; he enjoyed playing football while in high school and was All Conference in the WRC. He served his country in the U.S. Army; and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was employed at Tee Pak in Danville, Illinois for several years, and was then employed as a locomotive engineer for CSX Railroad. After his retirement from the railroad he was employed for many years as a Fountain County Reserve Deputy.

Roger was a member of the F. & A.M. Lodge #491 in Veedersburg. He was a past master in 1977, and he would have been awarded his 50-year award of gold in 2021. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He also enjoyed having coffee with his many friends around Veedersburg and in Crawfordsville.

Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday Jan. 30 at the funeral home. Masonic service to begin at 2:45 p.m.
