Ronald L. Johnson of New Market passed away June 7, 2025, at The Waters of Greencastle. He was 78.
Mr. Johnson served his country in the U.S. Army from August 1966 to August 1968, including a year in Vietnam. He worked at Fleetwood for 27 years and was an umpire for many years. He coached and helped with Montgomery County Special Olympics for 30 years. He was a member of Woodland Heights Christian Church, American Legion and the Eagles. Mr. Johnson was an avid fisherman and hunter. While living at the Waters he loved bingo and playing cards. Later in life he became an avid coloring artist, he was President of Resident Council and he enjoyed the men’s club, outings to Walmart and several local restaurants. His artwork was displayed throughout the Waters.
Born Jan. 9, 1947, in Lovington, Illinois, he was the son of Paul Johnson and Susie Knutt Johnson. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School. He married Betty Lou Hanley on Oct. 27, 1968. She passed away Feb. 12, 2002.
Surviving family includes: sons, Tracy (Cheryl) Johnson, Larry Johnson and Bryan Johnson; daughters, Laura (Rob) Nantais, Trina Johnson and Kerri Johnson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Richard Johnson; and sister Kathy Brown
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Burkhart Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at the funeral home, led by Pastor Steve Wilke. Burial with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
