Ronald Lee Cummings, 84, Crawfordsville, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East after an extended illness.

Ron was born Sept. 9, 1936, to Clayton and Velma (Myers) Cummings and was a 1955 graduate of Crawfordsville High School where he played football.

Ron was active in the National Guard and retired as a plumber/steam fitter for Local 157 at Terre Haute. He was a member of the International Professional Rodeo Association and a former Indiana Ropers and Doggers Association Steer Wrestling Champion. He was a current member of the American Legion and a legendary auction bid catcher for the former Ton Crier Agency.

He and his wife Monie managed and ran Ben Hur horse stables for many years. Ron enjoyed his family, friends, rodeos, auctions and college basketball.

He is survived by his wife Monie of 58 years; children, Linda Dalbey and Todd (Kendy) Cummings; grandchildren, Michele (Colby) Montgomery, Clay (Kaleigh) Cummings and Kaycee Cummings; great-grandson Tyler Lee Cummings; niece Jennifer Parsons; sisters-in-law, Joann Schlosser, Charlene Snelling and June McIntyre.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Ethyl Cummings; son-in-law Steve Dalbey; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marylea Cummings; sister-in-law Euleta Dowell; and nephew Joe Cummings.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hunt & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
