Chargers fall on the road to Patriots
Friday night North Montgomery boys basketball was back in action traveling to Seeger to take on the Patriots. Trailing by 17 at the end of the third, North Montgomery turned in an impressive final period but still fell short by a score of 49-39.
Jakob Kirsch led the Chargers with 21 points in the loss while his brother Jarrod added in eight.
North Montgomery (0-4, 0-1 SAC) now will get ready for a county rivlary game Friday night against Crawfordsville (3-2 0-1 SAC) in what will be a girl/boy double-header beginning at 6 p.m.
Mustangs make it three striaght wins by downing Panthers
Fountain Central traveled to Riverton Parke on Friday night for their first WRC contest of the season as the Mustangs looked to make it three straight wins. They were able to do just that as they defeated the Panthers 59-31 to improve to 5-3 (1-0 WRC) on the season.
Free-throws proved to be the difference maker in the win as the Mustangs made 20 of their 25 attempts.
Issac Gayler led FC with 16 points. Will Harmon added in 12 and Mason Larkin rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11.
The Mustangs will put their three-game streak on the the line Friday night as they welcome another WRC foe in Attica to Veedersburg for a girl/boy double-header.
Wrestling
Mounties compete at Calumet Duals
Southmont came into Saturday’s Calumet Duals with a perfect 7-0 record. While the Mounties weren’t able to stay perfect on the season, losing their first match to a tough Westfield squad 60-12, they did end the day 4-1.
Southmont defeated Lake Station Edison in the second match of the day 69-12, host Calumet 46-33 in the thrid round, Valparaiso 46-36 in round four, and ended the day with a 54-21 win over Hammond Central.
Wyatt Woodall remained undefeated on the season for Southmont with a 5-0 record individually.
Overall the Mounties are 11-1 on the season and will host South Vermillion Tuesday night as they will celebrate senior night.
Mustangs place fourth at Clinton Prairie Invite
Fountain Central travled to compete in the Clinton Prairie Invitational on Saturday and ended the day placing fourth our of 16 teams.
Waylon Frazee and Steven Romero both earned second place finishes on the day for the Mustangs, while Dallas Simmons, Austin Pickett, and Dawson Woodward all placed third.
Fountain Central will return to the mat Tuesday night as they travel to North Putnam.
Swimming and Diving
Mustangs split with Eagles in pool
Fountain Central hosted South Putnam in a dual meet Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs and Eagles split the meet as on the boys side Fountain Central came away with a 92-68 win, while the girls fell 117-44.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Monday traveling to South Vermillion.
