Mustangs fall to Trojans on last second FT

After falling to Covington in the Bi-County Tournament just two weeks ago, Fountain Central girls basketball once again traveled to Covington Thursday for a re-match with the Trojans. After trailing by 12 at the half, the Mustangs came back out firing and had the game tied at 51 in the final seconds. However the Trojans made what was the game-winning FT with .8 seconds left and Fountain Central fell 52-51.

Jerzi Hershberger led FC with 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in the loss. Hannah Prickett and Larissa Bowers each had ten and Brailey Hoagland scored eight points while picking up six steals.

The Mustangs fall to 6-11 (1-3 WRC) and will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Tri-County (7-8).

Mounties drop SAC contest to Warriors

Southmont hosted SAC foe Danville Tuesday and fell to the Warriors 56-19. Belle Miller led the Mounties with seven points in the loss.

The Mounties fall to 5-7 (0-3 SAC) on the season and will look to get back into the win column Thursday as they host Attica (0-12).

Swimming and Diving

Mustangs split with central catholic

Fountain Central hosted Lafayette Central Catholic as the Mustangs returned to the pool. The Mustangs would split the meet with the Knights as the boys were victorious 109-20 and the girls were defeated 92-73.

FC will be back in action Thursday as they host Lafayette Jeff.

Chargers swept by Eagles

North Montgomery hosted South Putnam, but the visiting Eagles were able to come away with a sweep of the Chargers. On the girls side the Chargers were defeated 101-69 while the boys fell 92-63.

Jameson Burget, Maggie Michael, Avery Wright, Brooklyn Kearns, Jack Rogers, and Landon Birge all picked up wins for the Chargers.

North Montgomery returns to the pool Thursday for the Sagamore Conference Prelims at CHS.

Wrestling

Mounties take down Mustangs on mat

After competing at the 2022 Team State over the weekend, Southmont wrestling traveled to Fountain Central for a dual meet with the Mustangs. The Mounties picked up a 54-27 win to improve to 16-4 on the season.

Brier Riggle (106), Thomas Woods (113), Maddox Cade (132), Marlin Williams (145), Max Musick (160), Micah Kiger (170), Wyatt Woodall (195), Collin Martin (220), and Zayden Dunn (Hwt) all were victorious for the Mounties in the win.

Dallas Simmons (120), Waylon Frazee (126), Andrew Woodrow (138), Austin Pickett (152), and Steven Romero (182) were the winners for the Mustangs.

Fountain Central will be back in action Saturday at North Vermillion for the WRC Tournament while the Mounties will look for their third straight Sagamore Conference title Saturday at North Montgomery at the 2022 SAC meet.
