Running and walking enthusiasts have an opportunity to help improve water quality throughout the world.
First Christian Church in Crawfordsville will have its first-ever 5K walk/run beginning at 8 a.m Sunday. Participants should meet at the church parking lot at 211 S. Wabash Ave.
The event is being held in conjunction with the March 22 International Safe Water Day.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with fees set at $25 per individual or $50 per family. Those who registered early online will receive a T-shirt and a light breakfast. The breakfast will be available in the church’s fellowship hall after the event.
Event organizers state enthusiasm for the event has been high at the church.
“The is the first time we have ever tried something like this and the participation has been great,” said church member Carolyn Snyder. “We have nearly 70 people either volunteering, participating or making the breakfast.”
Several of the church youth are involved and one girl came up with the theme which is “Moving Together to Care for God’s World.”
All proceeds from the event will be sent to Global Ministries for safe water and education through partners and communities worldwide. Global Ministries is an arm of the faith-based Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ churches. The event is a Global Ministries Mission Dash 5K which are held throughout the world at different times.

“We are excited and believe it is for a good cause,” Snyder said. “The people have responded and we are having fun with it. We are hoping for a good turnout from our community.”
