Russell D. Green, 92, died May 12, 2020, at Ben Hur Health & Rehab of complications from COVID-19.

He was born Aug. 26, 1927, at Crawfordsville, to Cecil and Mary (Patton) Green.

Following graduation with the Crawfordsville High School class of 1945, Russell entered the Navy where he attended electronics schools and served with FASRON-111 in Miramar, California. He was discharged in 1948 as an aviation electronics technician. He then attended Purdue, earning a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1952. He first worked at Bendix Electronics in Baltimore, Maryland, then in Indianapolis at IDEA, a home electronics manufacturing company. There he met and later wed the love of his life, Charlene Shay, of Southport. Russell then worked for Allison Division of General Motors at Indianapolis as a design engineer in the controls department. He retired from Allison after 37 years and then worked there for an additional four years as a consultant.

Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Charlene; four sons, Bill (Darla) of Lake Holiday, John (Jaronna) of Marshall, Paul (Debbie) of Brazil and Ted (Jennifer) of Peoria, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister Marge Rush.

Preceding him in death are his parents and daughter Carol Ann.

Russell believed in God. Cremation was chosen with remains buried at Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery. A celebration of life may be held at a later date. There are no scheduled services at this time. Machledt & Servies Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
