Say ‘thanks’ to a youth worker

Posted

Thank a Youth Worker Day is Thursday. This world-wide movement is designated to bring awareness and gratitude to the largest group of human service professionals. Youth workers are essential to all communities world-wide. Now more than ever, youth workers are going the extra mile for those they serve.

The Youth Work field is comprised of many roles. According to the National Collaboration for Youth, a youth worker is an individual who works with or on behalf of youth to facilitate their personal, social and educational development and enable them to gain a voice, influence and place in society as they make the transition from dependence to independence. We are coaches, mentors, house parents, teachers and counselors; you might find us in community centers, after school programs, churches, mental health centers and more. All youth workers are essential workers.

In Montgomery County, the Boys & Girls Club of Montgomery County and the Youth Service Bureau are continuing to provide critical services to youth. Along with all of teachers, day care workers, mental health workers, churches and many more, we are in this together to continue to serve our children and youth.

Say “thanks” to a youth worker on Thursday.
