Scott Stacey Stamper, 61, of Lafayette and formerly of Crawfordsville, left this earthly life at IU Arnett Hospital on Jan. 22, 2025, after a decades-long battle with kidney disease.

He was born Aug. 11, 1963, in Crawfordsville, to Charles S. and Mary Jane (Horn) Stamper.

He was a graduate of Washington (Indiana) High School in 1981, where he was a standout member of the swim team. He was honorably discharged from service to our country after having been an enlisted member or United States Air Force. Along with his father and two brothers, Scott was an ardent lover of automobile racing, especially the Indianapolis 500.

Before his disease was diagnosed he was a long-time employee of Raybestos Powertrain, Crawfordsville. Scott was a lover of music, especially Boston, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Barry Manilow and all things “80’s.” He quite enjoyed a good game of euchre and never found himself too far from a cribbage board when his brothers or son Brandon were around.

Religion held an important spot in Scott’s life having been confirmed in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Crawfordsville, then later becoming a member of the Greater Macedonia Church in Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece Dawn Michelle Stamper; daughter Alicia Nicole Stamper; brother Stephen Kent Stamper; and brother-in-law Sam Puzzello.

He is survived by his children, Brandon Scott Stamper of Lafayette, Cristen Rachelle Stamper of Ft. Myers, Florida, Lauren Kylei Stamper of Ft. Myers, Jordon Andrew Stamper of Cape Coral, Florida, and Ashlyn Nechel Stamper, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one grandchild, River Phillips Ordes, Baton Rouge. Also surviving are brother Charles Conley Stamper of Crawfordsville; sisters, Sondra (John) Newman of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cheryl Kay Puzzello of Lebanon and Cathy Renee Kelley of Philpot, Kentucky; sister-in-law Sandra Ellen Stamper of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Greater Macedonia Church in Lafayette, dates and times to be determined. Burial to take place in the Linden Cemetery.
