Girl Scout Troop 57078 hosted a gathering of other troops in the community to learn about the Globe at Night Citizen Science project (https://globeatnight.org/). Younger troops were invited to learn about light pollution, constellations, and citizen science through interactive activities. One of these was using Oreos to create the phases of the moon. The girls also observed the night sky.. The idea was taken from the Dark Skies Initiative, which educates citizens about light pollution and encourages them to take action against it. Light clutter is the light created by human sources that interferes with viewing the night sky and causes problems for wildlife. The more the civilization grows, the more light pollution grows with it. It is important to take action against light clutter.. Go to https://darksky.org/ to learn more about the negative effects of light pollution and what you can do to help.
