The Montgomery County Highway Department will begin seal coating operations for certain roads today.
Crews will start on C.R. 625 on or around today depending upon weather conditions.
Multiple locations are scheduled for seal coating operation and the seal coating project is scheduled to last 4-5 weeks. Weather may extend the project length.
Seal coating will be performed under full road closure. This method greatly reduces risk of property damage, allows the work to be performed more efficiently, increases safety for crews on sight, and allows for a better-quality finished product.
During seal coating, workers will set small stones in an asphalt emulsion, or a bonding agent, which is then cured for a few days.
The next step is to fog seal the road by applying a light layer of asphalt that seals the stones. After seal coat operations are complete, any loose aggregate will be swept away from the road. Seal coating, on average, extends the life of pavement by three to five years.
Roads are chosen for this process based on surface type, condition and age. Motorists should remember to slow down, increase following distance, obey all work zone signs, and plan for extra time to get to your destination.
The roads scheduled for seal coating in 2021 are as follows:
• 625S between 900E and 950E
• 900E between 625S to bridge
• 825E between State Road 234 and 700S
• 1200S between 550E & county line
• 400S between State Road 47 and U.S. 231
• Jim Davis Bridge between 600W and 600S
• 600W between Division Road and Jim Davis Bridge
• 600W between Old State Road 55 and 900N
• 900N between 600W and 700W
• 700W between 900N and 1125 N
• 830W between 400N and U.S. 136
• 400N between 830W and State Road 25
