SENIOR ATHLETE BRACKET: Elite Eight up next

The list of senior athletes is now down to eight as some of Montgomery County’s best for the last four years is now front and center, and the accomplishments of this group is glowing.

North Montgomery’s Kade Kobel, who has suited up for the Chargers in each of his four sports — football, basketball, track and field, and baseball since he was a freshman, now faces Southmont’s Mia Myers. The Mountie senior helped lead the Mounties to three-straight soccer sectional titles as a topnotch defender, and will be remembered as a fierce competitor on the pitch in the fall and on the track and in the spring.

Crawfordsville’s Lauren Kellerman, who is a former girls’ basketball player of the year and ranked near the top in the state in hits last spring in softball, now faces classmate Cale McCarty. The Athenian senior starred for the football team for four seasons, and has been an anchor in the Crawfordsville middle-infield in recent spring seasons.

Southmont’s Lexie Odum will go down as one of the top soccer players and sprinters to ever represent the Mounties now faces North Montgomery’s Drew Webster, who ranks in the top-five in wins for the Chargers in wrestling, and helped North Montgomery to its first winning season on the gridiron last fall since 2016.

And in the final Elite Eight matchup, Southmont’s Drew Glancy, who helped the Mounties on both the gridiron and hardwood, faces classmate Lexi Nelson, who helped Southmont to a sectional title in volleyball last fall. Nelson also broke some program and county records in her four-year career.
