The Montgomery County Regional Sewer Water District pushed the start button Wednesday on the design phase for the expansion of the Nucor Road Wastewater Treatment Plant.
As potential leads come in for new business in the Nucor area, consultants say the plant’s capacity should be expanded to prepare for future hook-ups. The current capacity of 100,000 gallons per day is not enough for many industrial users, said Lana Beregszazi, president of BCS Management.
“And some of these potential vendors, or industrial tenants, are going to use more than the entire capacity of the plant as it is currently,” she said.
The district approved a measure committing to spending $400,000 for the design and permitting process, which will be overseen by GAI Consultants of Indianapolis. The Montgomery County Redevelopment Commission received funds to help the district cover the cost.
“We feel like the ball’s in the sewer board’s court to decide whether they want to move forward with it or not,” commission chair Ron Dickerson told district members.
In supporting the design phase, district chairman Dan Guard said he didn’t want the county to “be in a situation where we lose out on things because we’re not being prepared and we’re not making decisions with good information.”
In other business, the district gave its approval for BCS Management to design and maintain a website for the district. The cost would range from $4,000-$5,000, Beregszazi said.
“There’s a lot of information that could be very useful for not only ratepayers but potential residents and businesses moving into the area,” she said.
Rate ordinances, connection permits and standards, project and rate information could be posted on the site.
BCS recently designed and launched a website for the redevelopment commission, which provides information about economic development projects and data on businesses and the economy.
