The Mary Bishop Memorial Gallery at the Crawfordsville District Public Library invites the community to view paintings and other media by international artist Moumita Mukherjee.
Her work is on exhibit and will be available for public view until mid-July during normal operating hours at the CDPL. A limited amount of artworks will be for sale during the exhibition through the Circulation department.
Mukherjee is a modern existentialist painter, who likes to experiment with techniques and styles. She has transformed a world of acrylics into “Mumuscapes” to communicate her thoughts. As a feminist painter, her canvases portray uncommon stories of common women. The rarity of male figures in her work is not to exclude, but to portray the magnanimity and the strength of the often-marginalized female in our society.
“Life is an experience with … many shades of emotions and colors. My paintings draw inspiration from the struggles and strides of everyday people around me,” she said.
Moumita was born in India in 1971 and is a self-taught painter. She is a civil engineer by profession and currently works for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. She lives in Greenwood with her family. Her paintings have been sold in different corners of the world and her work has been displayed in many solo and group exhibitions in the USA, UK, Belgium and Germany. In March, Moumita was recognized by Lt. Governor Susan Crouch as one of the “Hoosier Women Artists,” an award that celebrates and expands the role art plays in our communities by showcasing the work of female artists throughout the state.
