Sharon Kay Sills, 80, passed in peace on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at home in Crawfordsville, with family.

Sharon was born Feb. 10, 1940 in Rockville, to the late Kenneth Carl and Louise Harrison. She was a graduate of Indiana Business College. Sharon married the love of her life, Walter Lee Sills, on Sept. 20, 1959. Walt preceded Sharon in death (1978) all too early, though not before his US Navy retirement or before they created a beautiful family of five children; four daughters and a son.

Sharon was active through the years supporting her children in multiple sports, marching band (including flag and pom squads) and 4-H at Walnut Elementary and Southmont. She had countless “Band Day” stories to tell. She served the community as a member of the Home Ec. Club and Robert Turner American Legion Auxiliary Post 427 both of New Ross. Our family will forever adore memories of helping peel potatoes for pounds of potato salad that she helped make for the “Fish Fry.”

Sharon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served the Lord. When she was still able to get around with ease, she served at the Chicago temple regularly. She loved spending time reading scriptures and fellowshipping.

She was truly a gifted artist and seamstress. Those talents served her and many others very well. You see, she turned those talents into hobbies and eventually into a craft business. She always looked forward to the Covered Bridge Fall Festival! Her daughters, Carla and Janelle, were always working right alongside Sharon to lighten her load with the business. They both have their mother’s talents. Sharon’s artistry showed through best, though, in her hand sewn quilts.

Sharon was an incredible mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was kind, joyful and offered her friendship to all. She liked bonfires, swimming, hiking and raking leaves. She loved cooking for her family and trying new recipes. Sharon was a definite sports fan, she enjoyed going to anything her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren were doing (soccer, volleyball, horse shows, etc.). She really liked watching March Madness and was very good at the brackets!

Sharon’s legacy and impact on this world, and I am sure she never even realized just how profound it was, will continue through her family.

Sharon leaves to cherish her loving memory her five children, Carla Hensel of New Ross, Janelle (JD) Spencer of Crawfordsville, Pam (Bob) Folger of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, Ken (Brenda) Sills of Elwood, Utah and Tonya Sills of Savannah, Georgia. Her memory will also be cherished by her two surviving brothers, Jack (Anne) Harrison of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Harry (Jean Testa) Harrison of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Sharon was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. There are many cousins, nieces, nephews and greats of each that she both knew and adored; they will also be in remembrance of Sharon at this time.

Sharon was also preceded in death by both parents; brother Jimmie (Betty) Harrison; and sister Judy.

In Sharon’s final months, her daughter, Janelle took full care of her. The rest of the family wants Janelle to know that words will never adequately express the love and appreciation that they have for her, for all she has done.

A memorial service is being planned later due to current travel restrictions. However, in lieu of flowers, a square of fabric (4”x4” or smaller) can be sent to be sewn into a quilt for the memorial. Please send to: Sharon Sills Memorial, c/o Tonya Sills, 604 Rivers End Dive, Savannah, GA 31604.
