After a winless season in 2019 and a lost 2020 season, first-year coach Rob Earley is eager to change the North Montgomery softball culture.
“My hopes for this first official year in coaching for North is to change the atmosphere into a positive one,” Earley said. “I want the program to grow as the younger generation gets excited about playing softball at North.”
Earley says the Chargers would have had many returning upperclassmen last season, and are now down to just a few returning players with varsity experience. Makinze Rominger is North Montgomery’s lone senior, joining Mallory Morehouse as an additional returning starter from 2019.
Juniors include Rachel Smith, Lily Shaw, and Halee Claycomb. Jaymie Freeman, Lily Dockins, Cascie Keller, Jennifer Carrigan, Grace Gastineau, and Jazmine Mercado are all sophomores, while Megan Raff, Payton Church, and Skyley Cloncs round out the roster as freshman.
“This year will provide a ton of new faces to the spotlight,” Earley said. “Our underclass have many up and coming stars such as Skyley Cloncs, Payton Church, Cascie Keller, Grace Gastineau but not limited to them. The entire roster will positively impact our team throughout the season.”
North Montgomery opens the season at Clinton Prairie on Wednesday, April, 7 at 5:30 p.m.
“Our goals for the season are to make positive strides both individually and as a team,” Earley said. “The culture change is a huge goal for our program. The team has goals but we would like to keep them sealed in an envelope until after the season. Positive attitudes will provide positive results.”
