Sonny Wayne Abney, 51, passed away Oct. 1, 2021, at Port Charlotte, Florida. He was the husband of Jill Abney of Port Charlotte, Florida. They shared 12 years of marriage.

Born in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Roger (Jo) Abney and Connie (Gary) Popp. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1988.

He retired from AT&T in July 2020, after 26 years of service as a telecommunication specialist. He owned the Lindy Freeze in Linden with wife Jill since 2015.

He and Jill moved to Port Charlotte in October 2020. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, football, coin collecting, watching sunsets with his wife and spending time with his family.

He is survived by wife Jill; children, Dylan Pike, Desmond Pike, Brooke Armstrong, Dakota Pike, Drake Pike, Dawson Pike, Tyler Abney, Destiny Pike and Madison Abney; and grandchildren, Parker, Ava, Holland, Asher, River and two grandbabies on the way; brothers, Sean Abney, Sean Douglas, Brandon Stamper and Jordon Stamper; and sisters, Jennifer Rivers and Stephanie Goodnight, Cristen Stamper, Lauren Stamper and Ashlyn Crail.

He is preceded in death by his mom, Connie Popp.

A private funeral for the family was held Oct. 6 in Punta Gorda, Florida. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Crawfordsville.
