South FFA crops teams win state championship

Southmont FFA’s junior and senior high crops teams earned another state championship in the virtual state crops contest last week.

Members of the state winning high school team will each receive a $500 scholarship on their senior night, while junior high state champions will receive $100 scholarship at the spring FFA banquet.

There were 71 senior teams and 301 senior individuals and 13 junior teams and 76 junior individuals that participated in the contest.

Members of the first place senior team included Lauren Tricker (individual placement second in the state); Levi Brush (individual placement third); Cole Rhoads (individual placement fourth); and Gabriel Little (individual placement fifth).

The first place junior team included Natalie Rhoads (individual placement first); Kylee Reeves (individual placement second); Clair Simpson (individual placement fourth); and Trent Reeves (individual placement sixth).

Students on the fourth place senior team were Kelsey Thompson (individual placement 10th in the state); Caden Sixberry (individual placement 16th); Jenna Bushong (individual placement 29th); and Ian Stull (individual placement 113th in the state)

The fourth place junior team included members Clay Allen (individual placement 14th); Hunter Thompson (individual placement 16th); Helen Butcher (individual placement 17th); and Sophia Shannon (individual placement 18th).

The teams were coached by Gary Mosbaugh. Ethan Smith also competed individually and placed 26th.
