South school board OKs teacher retirements

South Montgomery Schools will say goodbye to three long-time teachers at the end of the school year.

On Monday, the South Montgomery School Board approved the retireement of Jamie Welliever, Jennifer Jeffers and Ellen Lewis.

Welliever, a junior high science teacher, has taught for 33 years. Jeffers, a New Market Elementary teachers, has taught for 21 years; and Lewis, a New Market Elementary teacher, has taught for 19 years.

In other personnel matters, the board approved the transfer of Southmont High School Principal Mike Tricker to the new director of operations positions. A new principal will be assigned next year. Superintendent Shawn Greiner will soon schedule interviews for the position. The board hopes to announce the new hire by March.

The board will next meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 in the corporation board room.
