LIZTON — Southmont had few answers in their game at Sagamore Conference rival Tri-West on Friday. The Bruins defeated the Mounties 42-7.
Tri-West led 35-0 at the half resulting in a running clock for the second half.
Southmont Coach Desson Hannum said his squad did not play as well as they needed to against the Bruins.
“We did not play well against a good game on the road,” Hannum said. “Tri-West is a tough place to play and we did not respond like we wanted to.”
Mountie junior Cale Chadd provided a highlight when he intercepted a pass which led to quarterback Heath Toliver eventually scoring with 1:35 remaining in the quarter.
Substitutes for both teams played the majority of the fourth quarter. The Bruins added one more score in the final period.
Tri-West racked up 439 yards in the game.
Next up for the Mounties (3-6, 2-5 SAC) is the first round of the 2A sectional when they host county rival North Montgomery (3-6, 3-4 SAC) on Friday.
Hannum expects a good battle in front of a large crowd. He is looking for his team to gain some momentum similar to last season when his team advanced all the way to the semi-state game.
“The game against North is going to be a good game with a great atmosphere,” Hannum said. “Both teams will be excited to play again and both teams will be looking to gain momentum for a tournament run.”
