South’s McKinney to play tennis at Wabash

Trevor McKinney and his Southmont boys tennis teammates poured their heart and soul into last season.

Along with senior teammates Reese Long and Conner McVay, McKinney used dedication and a strong work ethic to help propel the Mounties to their first sectional title since 1991.

Now the Southmont graduate is ready to continue his tennis career at Wabash College.

“I would have to say the big reason is my love for the game,” he said. “I’ve always loved playing tennis and am glad I’ll be able to continue my athletic career at Wabash.”

McKinney used his drive to work his way up to the No. 2 singles position for his senior season, which ended with the Mounties making it to the regional final.

“I think a big thing I will be able to take from my time in high school is my work ethic,” he said. “I’ve always went with the attitude that there is nobody that is willing to outwork me and I say that in the most humble way possible. I feel that the most important thing I can do is work my hardest both on and off the court to be the best man I can be.”

McKinney hopes to use that motivation to succeed at one of the top Liberal Arts schools in the land, but says he’s still undecided on his area of study.

“I chose Wabash for many reasons,” he said. “A few would include the alumni network, academic rigor, and the small size of the campus. As far as studying I am undecided and plan to feel out some different ideas while I’m there.”

Over the next few months McKinney plans to improve his game by playing regularly, and hitting the weight room once he gets on campus.

He’s ready to be a Little Giant.
