Drivers will soon have to slow down on Airport Road.
The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners introduced an ordinance Monday setting a 45 mph speed limit on C.R. 400S between State Road 47 and U.S. 231.
“In the past year or so, you have resurfaced that road and now cars are back up to qualifying speed,” county attorney Dan Taylor told commissioners in explaining the ordinance.
There is currently no posted speed limit for that stretch of the road.
“We hope this helps slow things down there a bit,” Board of Commissioners President Jim Fulwider said. “I think Dan was rather nice when he said that [cars] are back up to speed.”
The ordinance comes up for another vote at the next meeting Sept. 28.
In other business, commissioners authorized county engineer Jim Peck to seek bids and fund a soil report for a new salt barn at the highway department.
“The existing barn is, well, probably several decades old and has gotten damaged over the last couple years,” Peck said.
Once plans and specifications are set, construction is anticipated early next year, he added.
In other matters, commissioners also:
• Authorized Peck to seek bids for the C.R. 100W bridge project. Bids should go out next week, with a company expected to be hired in late November, Peck said. Meanwhile, pre-construction work is continuing on the Jim Davis Bridge and C.R. 500N bridge projects.
• Introduced an ordinance creating a solid waste district for the county. The county voted earlier to pull out of the West Central Indiana Solid Waste District at the end of the year due to cost-saving measures. The new district is set to be in place in 2021.
